If you're due a #hysteroscopy please don't be scared by past horror stories. Please read this info from the Royal College of Obs & Gynae. Decide if you'd prefer a GA. Agree with doctor/nurse that they'll stop and reschedule w/ GA if you're in pain. rcog.org.uk/en/patients/pa…

Should there ever be the need for a support group for victims of a medical op like outpatient #hysteroscopy. Are you aware @TheBSGE @RaneeThakar @RCObsGyn @PSCommissioner there is one. @HysteroscopyA are mopping up the emotional mess you leave after OPH without #anaesthetic!
A nulliparous member of the Campaign Against Painful Hysteroscopy, who'd been through a horrific outpatient hysteroscopy, was told by the nurses to have a couple of gins as pain control before her next procedure. Stanley Milgram's experiment - Nurses obeying cruel authority.
aghealth.co.uk/wid-easy Please tell your GP about the WID-Easy vaginal swab biomarker test for womb cancer. Developed and approved for use in the UK. We hope it will soon be routinely available as a first-line test for womb (endometrial) cancer.
One may equally ask, "Why should 1,000s of women be denied safe sedation & suffer excruciating, psychosexually violating pain because non-medical NHS managerial commissioners have been persuaded by the dodgy evidence of a group of gynaecologists claiming pain is over-emphasised?"
If only patients had a vote. Some Gynaecologists might not want to sign up to treating women’s pain. Empathy trained out of them ?
Same with cercival punch biopsies and curettage. I fainted with the pain...They're cutting off a part of your body ffs.
It’s unthinkable, unnecessary and unethical. When you hear woman reporting it as barbaric and feeling violated to then find out the clinician wrote in the medical record -procedure well tolerated they wonder why woman won’t attend the appointment or don’t return! Trust has gone
The campaigners @HysteroscopyA have a simple ask. They don’t want women to be frightened of the procedure - which can save lives - they just want women to be informed of their rights to adequate pain relief. bigissue.com/life/health/wo…
The women I spoke to believe they were not given a chance to give “informed consent”. The NHS website describes it as a “simple” and “relatively quick” procedure which is “not usually carried out under anaesthetic”. bigissue.com/life/health/wo…
“It’s unacceptable that women are still being brutalised by NHS hysteroscopies, and that our voices are still being dismissed. The government needs to listen” – @lynbrownmp, who has raised this in parliament 11 times, told me bigissue.com/life/health/wo…
Is this for real ? Women who have just miscarried are given a VR headset to watch instead of anaesthesia while any remains of the pregnancy are removed. This is not progress. cwplus.org.uk/latest/virtual…
@AshleyDalton_MP @wesstreeting About 70 K women a year have this procedure in England each year . 2 Paracetamol just doesn’t work on #Womb surgery. Dr Gail Busby now offers deep sedation with an anaesthetist as a choice for her patients this needs to be avaiable nationally.
Scandalous that NO preventive anaesthesia +/- sedation is offered for NHS #hysteroscopy. Only when the patient is in a lot of discomfort or pain (i.e. distressed) is gas & air or local anaesthetic offered.
The bill for maternity negligence claims in the UK since 2019 is higher than the entire cost of providing maternity care. Devastating. theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
Is this true? @DrNighatArif should this be happening?

Thank you @IsabellaMcRae @BigIssue for accurate, sensitive Social Justice reporting. Five women describe NHS #hysteroscopy & @lynbrownmp comments: "It's unacceptable that women are still being brutalised by NHS hysteroscopies, and that our voices are still being dismissed."
I have spent months speaking to women who felt “violated” after facing horrific pain in NHS hysteroscopies. It is not routine to offer anaesthetic. Many are told they will manage on paracetamol. But one in three face “severe pain” @HysteroscopyA bigissue.com/life/health/wo…
@VictoriaAtkins “I am clear that it should not be the responsibility of women in those very distressing circumstances to ask for pain relief. Clinicians must assume that a woman wants it, and discuss that with her before the procedure” #hysteroscopy
Since 2013 I've been raising the voices of women subjected to terrible unnecessary pain and trauma when they need a hysteroscopy. It's not party political. I sense Ministers are also frustrated with those in the medical establishment resisting change. We need leadership now.
“the responsibility should not be on women in those very distressing circumstances to ask for pain relief. It must be for clinicians to assume that the woman wants it and to discuss that with her ahead of the procedure”.
@RCObsGyn what action will you to taking to rectify this continued disregard for women's gynaecological health and well-being? "Women are being pressured into enduring severe pain and find that they are ignored or belittled by those charged with their care when they cannot."
An important read for those who care about women's health and well-being ... committees.parliament.uk/publications/4… #gynaecology #informedchoice #hysteroscopy
