Prepare to be stampeded by a herd of white elephants! I am keeping my hopes up for Ick, Naked Gun, Spinal Tap 2, and Fackham Hall
Halfway through the year and we still have PTA, Park Chan-wook, Spike Lee, the Safdies, Ethan Coen, Joachim Trier, Guadagnino, Lanthimos, Linklater, Bigelow, Cianfrance, Reichardt, Lynne Ramsay, Kogonada, Ari Aster to come
This is true of every film bro pinup “auteur” from Tarantino onward (hipness valued over craft). It’s created a paradox in film schools where every male student wants to be one of these guys (QT, DF, CN) and the professors know they’re supposed to advise against it but can’t.

Just sounds like the usual nihilistic dread/anxiety that Nolan always does. Why are “threatening images” good images?
still not over what a bold, confident swing Nolan’s making here — I suspect many expected Nolan’s version of TROY (whatever that means) and instead the teaser of his biggest blank check is dripping with foreboding and portent. feels like a natural extension after OPPENHEIMER.
Lot of kids think they have a love for cinema when it’s really just the youthful culture FOMO. Hypesters, not cinephiles.
What I love about the cinematography in SUPERMAN and 28 YEARS LATER is that they both look NEW. Maybe some of it feels wrong for a moment, but only because your brain has no reference for it. Familiar is boring. This is punk as hell.
Well, we know RMBee’s prediction didn’t pan out. Let’s see how this other one goes…pretty close so far.

If Gunn’s movie were rated any lower, it would be bombing as hard as The Flash. Hollywood’s total dependence on Rottentomatoes for engagement will continue to gradually facilitate its decline.
The audience rejected it vs the audience loves it
Brendan Fraser as Superman, basically.

Top Gun Maverick became a phenomenon not because people unconditionally love Tom Cruise, but because they had been missing the original goofy movie star side of Cruise that they hadn’t seen in decades because the Mission Impossible series never featured it.
One of the many bold and awesome aspects of the movie. But the dominant nerd audience hates bold and awesome, which is why 99% of superhero movies are so boring and lifeless.
It's mad to think that Batman and Superman's first live-action meeting happens in a dream sequence/future vision with an evil brainwashed Superman. Since this scene happens in the film before their meeting in the main timeline. What a severe mess.
Gunn takes us back to the Chris Reeve Daily Planet, Fortress of Solitude, and musical theme. It looks like Superman Returns redux with extra characters and BVS themes. It’s just crazy that it was either the Snyderverse or directly back to Reeve. There was never any 3rd option.
