I wonder if any data centers in the MISO footprint had to reduce their demand today.
Public utility, as in publicly traded among shareholders - not as in public service
How many people knew that a corporation named Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) had the authority to order a public utility to cut power to thousands?
I would be reluctant to call what’s happening “rolling blackouts.” Maybe “partial blackout” because “rolling” implies planning was involved. So would “brownout.” #wordsmatter #wordnerd
Good explanation of what’s happened. Note that you can expect any higher power costs to land in a future bill. MISO will be pressed to answer why the peak demand load wasn’t anticipated. Pretty sure they have access to weather forecasts, too.
There’s a controlled blackout in New Orleans. A power plant is offline and temperatures are higher than expected. Learn more in the video!

Again, it’s still early, and maybe these details will come. But this is the norm for a regional power distributor that doesn’t have to answer to state or local regulators.
I also spoke PSC Commissioner Skrmetta who said MISO will not give him details.
While it’s encouraging that a PSC member is getting answers, it should be noted the federal govt, not the state, regulates MISO. Accountability in store? Way too soon to say.
I’ve talked with MISO. A generator was planned to be out for maintenance. However, a generator tripped and there wasn’t enough energy to meet the demand. But, I’m told it’s contained and coming online. But why was the forecasting off?
In case you’re wondering, Entergy generates electricity, but MISO controls when and where it’s delivered to customers.
According to Entergy, this is a load shed event as directed by MISO. That means it is intentional. The question is why?
I keep waiting for a push notification to tell me John Foster has captured the escaped inmates from OPP
Murphy Shough, my early pick for Barkus King 2025
Tyler Shough’s dog is officially the highlight of the draft.
Not me checking my budget to see if there’s room to buy a new set of golf clubs …
You have to appreciate that the man tasked with updating the OMV’s 50-year-old mainframe shares a name with the man known for “Summer of ‘69” - maybe the last time that mainframe worked as intended. fox8live.com/2025/04/02/lou…
Hey @nolaready, maybe we should give the OK for neutral ground parking a little earlier than 10 minutes before the heavy rain arrives.

Update: The mother of the teen has posted bond as of Friday evening. I'll be continuing to update this story with @IlluminatorLA, @pulitzercenter and @GregLaRose
