Well look what came in the mail today! With a gorgeous cover (J. David’s Serment du Jeu Paume) and note on its image by @CT_Green

It was a privilege to attend former Justice Brown’s festschrift this past weekend. Canada has lost an exceptionally clear-minded and rigorous jurist, but his legacy will live on in his principled jurisprudence and masterful dissents.

George Grant would see resurgent 'elbows up' nationalism as a hollow and banal progressivism unable to provide us with a distinct identity, leaving us doomed to disappear in the face of America’s relentlessly progressive technological civilization: thehub.ca/2025/07/12/ben…

Canadian universities are in many cases fostering civic illiteracy, intolerance, and cancel culture: what is to be done? John von Heyking and I argue for @TheHubCanada that Alberta and other provinces should establish new “Schools of Civics”: thehub.ca/2025/06/30/dee…
Fantastic piece. “Too many regard the role of university education as teaching students to repudiate and reject their social order, rather than understanding, preserving, and reforming it for the common good” #cdnpoli thehub.ca/2025/06/30/dee…

Now for some personal news: today is my last day as Dean. I was stunned to be informed by our new provost there will no longer be a Dean of Honors, period. Nor an Assistant Dean. Rather, I was told there will be a “director” of honors--but that person will not be me. (12/21)
One of my favourite things about @TheHubCanada is that we're not limited to day-to-day politics or rank punditry. Sometimes we push bold (and well-developed) policy ideas. This new essay on university reform by John von Heyking and @GeoffSigalet is one example. It's a must read.

per Miller J.A.: “The apparent triviality of the ultimate issue in this appeal – whether a public office holder must reside in the geographic area the officer serves – masks the massive expansion of judicial power required to allow the appeal.” 1/
