It was an honour to meet Charlie Hebdo's editor-in-chief, Gérard Biard, 10 years on from the barbaric terror attack -- when 8 of his colleagues were murdered for the 'crime' of blasphemy Here he talks about Islamism, free speech and the importance of courage:
“We must speak without fear” Charlie Hedbo’s editor-in-chief, Gérard Biard, talks to spiked about Islamism, free speech and courage. Watch and tell us what you think below👇
It is just mind-blowing that one part of the state is talking about stopping children having smartphones whilst the other is talking about giving them the vote. The dissonance is just incredible.
📱School leaders say banning phones has been 'transformational', with a drop in suspension rates, safeguarding concerns and even staff turnover schoolsweek.co.uk/transformation…

Protest outside a newly designated asylum hotel in Canary Wharf - it’s clearly spreading

The utter political insanity of the Prime Minister casually claiming local authorities have lots of spare housing laying around that they can easily use to accommodate asylum seekers.
There are 1.3 million people on social housing waiting lists in England alone. But Keir Starmer believes there’s ‘lots of housing’ spare we should be giving to illegal migrants That’s madness. What is he going on about?
You are never going to guess the plot twist here

It's done: China just launched the construction of the Yarlung Tsangpo dam project (scmp.com/news/china/dip…). It'll be by far the world’s largest hydroelectric facility, generating 3 times more electricity than the Three Gorges dam, 300 billion kilowatt-hours. This dam project…
Too young to play Grand Theft Auto legally but not too old to vote or (eventually) to kill yourself.
Votes at 16 as countries with euthanasia have moved towards offering it to those younger than 18 just feels like it has wider implications on capacity in light of our own move to assisted suicide.
After party’s are for wankers I’m getting straight of after the gigs get my beauty sleep this level of sexiness doesn’t happen by staying up talking bollox to bellends
Britain built its last reservoir in 1992. Since then Poland has built *six* new reservoirs. Britain built its last motorway in 2003. Since then Poland has added over *1,300km* of new motorway. And each year per person, Poland builds *twice* as many new homes as Britain.
By the end of this decade, Poles will be earning more than Britons because their government actually trusts its people to keep what they earn and supports families with real help, not handouts
I find it intriguing how so many people who otherwise loathe democracy (pro-EU, pro-rule of lawyers, anti-free speech) are in favour of votes for children
Intriguing to hear so many of the objections to votes at 16 today. Consciously or otherwise, so many are exactly the same arguments which were used about every single extension of the franchise since the 19th century.
From hospital workers in Scotland to swimmers on Hampstead Heath women largely want to undress and change their clothes away from the sight of men they are not intimate with. The amount of legal obfuscation deployed in various places to ignore or deny this simple truth is amazing
‘Grooming gangs, honour killings, migrant sex crimes. All have been ignored or covered up for the sake of protecting multiculturalism. Meanwhile, the elites obsess over faux-feminist fads. They care nothing for women and girls’ Watch Georgina Mumford’s polemic 👇
If Labour wants to give the vote to 16-year-olds, then why not let them smoke, drink or serve in the army in active combat? It won’t. Because it knows they’re children. This expansion of the franchise is nakedly cynical, says Fraser Myers buff.ly/LrUsNk9
In 2029, 16 year olds will be able to vote but 20 year olds won't be able to buy Rizlas. 🥴

Globally, nationally, politically, I feel lost. The Afghan resettlement case is being underplayed. This 24 hour media - which I was once a part of - just moves on. Super injunctions have been used maliciously against the British public. OMG…

This Afghan leak story is huge, but only 24 minutes into BBC Ten O'Clock News.
