Opposing the #AssistedDyingBill isn’t being immune to painful patient stories or dismissive of choice. It’s about social responsibility, our duty to help people through despair. About the value we place on human life. 1/2
MPs voted in favour of passing the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill for E&W to the next stage of the Parliamentary process. We are still concerned that the Bill does not currently require a holistic assessment of unmet need See our response shorturl.at/SRwr9

Comprehensive rejection of #AssistedDying Bill in 9 succinct points from the Royal College of Psychiatrists @rcpsych.
@RCPsych cannot support the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill for England and Wales in its current form and is once again urging MPs to look at our concerns ahead of the pivotal Commons Report stage debate and Third Reading. More here: rcpsych.ac.uk/news-and-featu…
#Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK and interplay between ‘functional’ and ‘organic’ mental health conditions is complex. By examining electronic patient records, @DrChrisMueller argues we can detangle the complexity and support better treatment.
Yesterday I was grateful to give evidence about palliative care (wrt the assisted dying Bill) at an event in Parliament. This is what I said 🧵
@kesleeman emphasised that palliative care works - and that the campaign behind this Bill has presented a warped view of death and dying. Pain is not inevitable, and most bad deaths reflect a failure of care. We need to help people who want to die want to live, she said.

Please do look at this and help us with dementia research
Do you know someone who is living with dementia? You can help our researchers decide on the direction of new research to tackle this condition. Which medicines would you like to see repurposed for clinical trials to see whether they can slow or halt the progress of dementia?…
