This CT scan is definitely the most traumatic during lockdown I've been shown. Archery accident. Arrow through the heart. Miraculously and thankfully the patient survived. Let's look at all the ways they were lucky:

Now this is proof of the decline and fall of British civilisation.
In My Opinion: “The sooner we get rid of queuing, the better.” Esme Gordon-Craig is a journalist and she says that technology is finding so many ways to get rid of queuing. What do you think?
Fascinating. Streeting, DHSC & central NHS management don't understand how services are run or staffed w/ doctors or where cost of locum cover comes from. BMA cld align w/ NHS elective recovery priority* ?No strikes in normal elective/clinic time but indefinite OOH withdrawal😇
Exclusive: Wes Streeting the and NHS have a new tactic for dealing with the BMA - they are effectively trying to break it, destroying its ability to mount a protracted wave of industrial action Sir Jim Mackey, the head of NHS England, told hospital leaders yesterday that…
China connected 47 new nuclear reactors to it's grid in those 16 years and has a further 32 under construction. The same time it's taken the UK to 'greenlight' these 2 at Sizewell and start building at Hinckley point with 0 new nuclear connected to grid (net decommissioned)!
16 years ago I identified Sizewell as a site for new nuclear power. Today I am delighted that Sizewell C has finally been given the green light. We're delivering the biggest nuclear building programme in a generation 👇

Maternal outcomes are a scandal in the UK. Absolutely blockbuster paper here from a few of my personal (s)heros @ProfJennyGamble and @DrSteveRobson, that sheds some light. A thread of the highlights. 🧵 1/ obgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.11…
On behalf of the CNV analysis workgroup of the @PGCgenetics I'm pleased to share our latest paper "Psychiatric disorders converge on common pathways but diverge in cellular context, spatial distribution, and directionality of genetic effects" 🧵1/N medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
There are reports that the government is considering changing student loans or pensions for resident doctors. We've written a new @TheIFS comment on the potential merits of such changes. Here's a summary:
Statement from @RCRadiologists following @lengreview - No role for PAs in Diagnostic Radiology. - There may be a limited, tightly defined role for PAs to support doctors working in Interventional Radiology. - PAs should not be requesting any clinical imaging investigations.
The introduction of Physician Associates in the NHS has raised serious concerns among some of our members. We support several changes the Leng Review has proposed, but there's still work to be done to define how PAs work with our specialties. Read more: rcr.ac.uk/news-policy/la…
Not sure it's cheaper for govt than a negotiated pay settlement either Outstanding debt across doctors with Plan1+Plan2 student loans will be in the order of ~£6 Billion, and expected future return to student loan company ~2X that from high interest accumulation before paid off
I feel trading lack of pay for those in student loan debt is very silly. For the following reasons: - those who are Scottish that work in England will not benefit - those that came to uk to study and paid international fees will not benefit - some people will have been trying…
Fascinating watching unscripted interaction, authentic debate and live decision-making by physician/radiologist teams at RCPE's Radiology for Medics afternoon! @RCPEdin
Just 5 years ago, HFpEF was described as the “stepchild” of HF with no approved therapies. Today, there are 5 US FDA therapies: ✅ Empagliflozin (#EMPEROR) ✅ Dapagliflozin (#DELIVER) ✅ Sotagliflozin (#SOLOISTWHF) ✅ Sacubitril/Valsartan (#PARAGONHF) ✅ Finerenone (#FINEARTSHF)
The @lengreview tells @gmcuk they must revise Good Medical Practice "to provide distinct categories for PAs and AAs" Wasn't this @TheBMA's argument? Using the same standards for doctors and associates (under the term 'medical professionals') is confusing for everyone.
