Honoured to be asked by the Prime Minister to serve as Security Minister. Our national security is the first duty of government. Let's get to work.
National security is the first duty of government. Protecting the UK from international and domestic threats will always be our priority. We welcome @DanJarvisMBE as a Minister of State.
Grateful for @terrorwatchdog’s report on the UK's terrorism legislation. The UK has world-leading counter-terrorism laws in place, and independent oversight is essential to keeping them fit for purpose.
My latest annual report on operation of terrorism legislation is now public
Our new National Security Strategy sets out how we will keep the British public safe in a changing world. From stronger borders to safer streets, we’re strengthening our resilience and securing the UK against evolving threats.
In an increasingly unpredictable world, the threats we face are evolving - and so must our response. The National Security Strategy sets out how we are confronting threats at home - from terrorism to online radicalisation. Our top priority: keeping the British people safe.
These bounties, targeting Hong Kongers in the UK and overseas for exercising their right to freedom of expression, are completely unacceptable. We will not tolerate any attempt by a foreign power to intimidate, harass, or harm anyone living in the UK.
I condemn the further arrest warrants and bounties that the Hong Kong authorities have placed on individuals overseas. We will continue to stand by the people of Hong Kong, including those living in the UK. Joint statement with @YvetteCooperMP: gov.uk/government/new…
This is entirely incorrect. The treaty remains suspended. The new law completes the severing of extradition ties. We are resolute in our commitment to human rights, the rule of law, and safety of all in the UK. That goes for all Hong Kongers who have made our country their home.
Government plans to reintroduce extradition cooperation with Hong Kong are highly concerning. Why does the Government deem this reasonable when freedom of expression, political freedom and the rule of law in Hong Kong have been crushed by The National Security Law and the…
Today is International Security Officers' Day. I'd like to thank all those who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. The date, 24/7, is a fitting tribute to an industry that helps protect public spaces 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
⭐ Happy International Security Officers’ Day! On this International Security Officers Day, we’re celebrating the service, recognising the resilience, and honouring the bravery of front line security officers. (Thread ½)
Another conviction under the National Security Act. This is a clear warning to those seeking to offer their services to a foreign state — you will be caught and you will face the full force of the law.
Howard Phillips, 65, from Harlow in Essex has been convicted of engaging in conduct to assist Russia. Phillips leaked private info about the former Defence Secretary Sir Grant Shapps for money. We worked with @TerrorismPolice to secure this conviction: orlo.uk/Ud8HU
Ransomware preys on businesses and disrupts vital public services like schools and hospitals. We must protect our economy against the criminals who hold organisations to ransom. I've announced our plan to target these criminal networks and smash the ransomware operating model.
The public wants to see the UK better protected from ransomware. By reducing payments, increasing intelligence collection and strengthening disruptions - a stronger, safer UK starts here.
Thank you to all those (including my son!) grafting late into the night to get the crops in, both here in Barnsley North and around the country 🙌🏻🚜🌾🍻

These sanctions send a clear message to Russia. Attempts to conduct malicious cyber activity against the UK will not be tolerated. Along with our international partners, we work constantly to counter these cyber-attacks and bolster our resilience.
Russian spies are trying to destabilise Europe, undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and threaten the safety of British citizens. Today we are exposing this activity and sanctioning those responsible. Protecting the UK from harm is fundamental to this government’s Plan for Change.
Another Russian proxy group brought to justice. Anyone seeking to undermine our national security will be met by the full force of the law. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/j…
On the 20th anniversary of the 7/7 attacks, we remember the 52 lives lost, the countless others injured and all those affected. They are in my thoughts, today and every day. gov.uk/victimsofterro…

One year as Security Minister. A privilege to work with our intelligence and security services, @TerrorismPolice, @NCA_UK and Government colleagues to keep the UK safe. They do vital work—mostly in the shadows, always in our service. We owe them a great debt.

Every victim and survivor of terrorism deserves our unwavering support. We’ve taken the next step to create a dedicated support hub. Thank you @PoolReinsurance for your support.
Support Hub for victims and survivors of terrorism gov.uk/government/new… This is such a big step forward in the right direction. It is vital that victims of terrorism are getting the support and help at their most vulnerable time. Thank you @DanJarvisMBE & @PoolReinsurance
Today marks the start of the Foreign Influence Registration scheme — a significant milestone in protecting our country. By increasing transparency of foreign-directed activities in the UK, FIRS will strengthen our national security and our democracy. youtube.com/watch?v=5XqkHc…
