I am live outside of Tim Walz’s residence. A bunch of black SUV’s just rolled out. I am not a betting man but the vibe seemed very “this guy just got picked as VP”. Feel free to interpret how you wish!
I wrote about Saturday’s DFL convention. A lot of Minneapolis political observers are pretending not to see what a train wreck it was, because they like the result. But a process this broken can’t produce an especially meaningful result.
What happened next?
In 2016 Bernie was cheated out of a fair nomination process, but he decided to endorse Clinton for the good of the Democratic Party.
New: Mpls Rep. Ilhan Omar is staying out of the Mpls mayoral race for now and doesn't plan to back endorsed DSA candidate Omar Fateh or incumbent Mayor Frey. "I live in Mpls, and so I will be taking a closer look, and at some point deciding who I will vote for," she told me.
We agree with the former chair of the Minnesota DFL. The Minneapolis DFL convention was riddled with errors and we must do better as a party.
Have you taken sensitivity training since celebrating a constituent’s murder?
Quoting MLK’s Letter From A Birmingham Jail as a means of mocking a black pastor running for office? Yikes. Really disappointing invective coming from Sheriff Witt’s IGR Director.
Things have gotten so out of control that the left-leaning third-place candidate WHO WAS PROBABLY DROPPED FROM THE RACE DUE TO THE ERROR has now released a statement admitting he got screwed… and then declaring he wouldn’t challenge the result, and attacking the people who did.
Non-Minneapolitans need to understand how insane this is. Most people at our city endorsing convention now agree the first ballot was broken and affected the result. But because a DSAer won, the left has made “caring whether the count was accurate” an ideological litmus test.
The Minneapolis DFL convention process left out the votes of hundreds of delegates and does not represent the city of Minneapolis as a whole. A deeply flawed process and tiny fraction of the Minneapolis electorate should not determine the future of our city.
Out of the entire Dewayne Davis statement, this is the most important point. It’s his choice not to challenge it but it’s glaringly obvious here that challenging absolutely has merit.
There was a big difference between the number of delegates credentialed in and the votes cast. Our campaign believes it’s plausible, if not likely, that we would have made it to the second ballot had votes been accurately counted.
After two days of mocking anyone who questioned the voting numbers at the Minneapolis city convention, our local leftists have suddenly pivoted to "Yeah, yeah, everyone knew the numbers were wrong, but we decided not to redo it"
Yes, Frey only dominated in 2021 because no one was tuned into the Minneapolis election at the time.
This is exactly what we were telling people on the floor, and lots of DeWayne supporters agreed. I hope this inspires all candidates to fight harder for our city. Frey can only win if the public isn’t engaged.
I also have submitted an official challenge as a delegate on a personal level. As the party of democracy we should make sure every vote was counted and that no voters were disenfranchised.
JUST IN: @Jacob_Frey's campaign formally asked @MinnesotaDFL to throw out Saturday's @MinneapolisDFL endorsement of @OmarFatehMN. Their protest centers on the assertion that some delegates' ballots almost certainly weren't counted at Saturday's convention.
750+ delegates & upgraded alternates were there (probably more) at the time of the vote. Even several hours later at 9:20, there were still 699 dels/upgraded alts. It's ridiculous to claim that only 578 people tried to vote for the mayor's race.

The Stone Arch Bridge is officially open! Whether you’re walking, running, or biking, there’s no place more emblematic of Minneapolis. Thanks to Gov. Walz, MnDOT, the Park Board, our City Public Works team, and everyone else who hand a hand in making it happen.
