📢New @KFW_Lab paper out! AML mitochondria remain unperturbed & phenotypically stable under diverse nutrient conditions. And rather than specific nutrients or physiological relevance, AML cell proliferation is influenced by the complete nutrient profile 👉 cancerandmetabolism.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
Don’t let failure paralyze your day, your goal or your journey. Rather let it ignite the fire to fuel your determination. We all fail. How we fail matters most.

Another great takeaway here too is that increased risk from specifically diabetes is cancer specific.

New preprint from our lab! Given the importance of nucleotide synthesis for AML cells, and the fact that aspartate is essential for nucleotide synthesis, we wondered if exogenous aspartate uptake through EAAT transporters plays a role in this cancer.
The EAAT1 aspartate/glutamate transporter is dispensable for acute myeloid leukemia cell growth and response to therapy biorxiv.org/content/10.110… #biorxiv_cancer
I’m excited to announce my new book FOOD INTELLIGENCE coauthored with brilliant journalist @juliaoftoronto! Cutting through the confusion about diet & health, #FoodIntelligence describes the fascinating science of how food both nourishes and harms us. penguinrandomhouse.com/books/671334/f……
NAD depletion in skeletal muscle does not compromise muscle function or accelerate aging: Cell Metabolism cell.com/cell-metabolis…
Lactate is produced at rest. It isn't related to an oxygen limitation. George Brooks PhD did this work decades ago.
When oxygen is limited, pyruvate is converted into lactate, which allows the body to continue producing energy through anaerobic metabolism and is thought to cause some of the muscle burn felt during exercise
Despite Seyfried spending years saying that glutamine ("glutamine fermentation") is a key fuel for glioma growth, they disprove themselves and show supplementation doesn't affect orthotopic growth in vivo. It does when subcutanous, i.e., not in the brain biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Non-cancer cytoplasm/mitochondria disconnect and ATP compartmentalization. In one experiment, through inhibiting ANT, it's shown that "ATP generated by mitochondrial respiration is not required for cytoplasmic function of activated CD8+ T cell." elifesciences.org/articles/56612
Cancer bioenergetics consideration: More push isn't going to necessarily result in more pull. In other words, just trying to enhance pyruvate oxidation by inhibiting the Warburg Effect or giving more substrate is unlikely to automatically enhance respiration & OxPhos.
Some nutrition training for physician is great. But there are real issues this runs into: 1. Nutrition is a 4+yr degree/clinical training. Med school curriculum at most is going to add a few hours. There will never be time to adequately teach nutrition to physicians. They'll at…
Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he plans to tell American medical schools they must offer nutrition courses to students or risk losing federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services. abcnews.link/efruxzl
Honestly this is such a good and informative study. Cell intrinsitic metabolic phenotypes independent of microenvironment. Also, certain metabolic features are not different compared to normal brain tissue.
