30+ years acute hospital pall med consultant. Still learning. Love normalising palliative care; should be part of mainstream health care All views are my own.
Palliative care in action…ICU consultant asks if I can go to ED Resus now to jointly assess someone who has just been referred to him. As we arrive ED Team say ‘perfect combination… just what we need right now… you should always work like this’ #paliativecare
Stopping a loved one from ending their life is now 'coercion', according to Kim Leadbeater. What?? 😳
Some people think becoming disabled means your life (figuratively and sometimes literally) should be over. So they treat Disabled folks like independence is unrealistic, then act shocked when we face barriers those beliefs created. A self-fulfilling prophecy of their own ableism.
Canada delayed it's implementation for 3 years not to research or to prepare, but due to push back and public scrutiny in part by the disabled community. They are simply waiting until the clock runs out to implement it. They aren't planning on changing a single thing.

Each euthanasia provider is meant to follow the criminal law. But in Ontario, the Chief Coroner found instead in 2018 "a pattern of non-compliance, a pattern of not following legislation, a pattern of not following regulation." New docs reveal the problem has gotten worse. A🧵
New online — Ontario’s euthanasia regulators have tracked 428 cases of possible criminal violations, and not referred a single one to law enforcement. Read about the leaked documents, first revealed publicly moments ago by @AlexanderRaikin: thenewatlantis.com/publications/c…
“If you don’t have a disability, you get suicide prevention. If you do — they treat you like your life isn’t worth living.” We see a strikingly similar story unfolding in Colorado, where MAiD laws are putting people with disabilities at risk. We hope that lawmakers do the right…
Falconer suggested that the Lords must ‘uphold’ what ‘the Commons have decided to go ahead with’. A rather novel downgrading of our second house . I’ve explored this further in the @spectator
Why the Lords doesn’t have to accept the Assisted Dying Bill The reality is that both the House of Commons and the House of Lords play an equal role in the passing of legislation, except when it comes to matters of financial privilege ✍️ Nikki Da Costa…

The proposed changes to Pharmacy in the 10YP have almost gone unnoticed (well, not on the MedTwitter). But I think these are MONUMENTAL. To the point of completely resetting who a pharmacist is and what they do. 1/
Another clinical day, another discussion about how the Mental Capacity Act is poorly applied and understood
Over 660,000 people die each year in the UK, yet too many still can’t access the care and support they need at the end of life. That reality drives the work of Professor @kesleeman , whose NIHR-funded research is changing how the UK and the world care for people in their final…

The weight, the pressure, the fight, it’s all been building to this moment. For every parent who’s ever sat at their child’s bedside, wondering how they’ll keep going… this is for you. Big week ahead. Let’s go 🦋 #amendment97
bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… There goes another one.Message loud & clear: @_Government_UK will fund your assisted death but not your palliative care. Whoever thinks that assisted suicide is compatible with palliative care, look around. @SarahCoombesWB @OurDutyOfCare @AlexBallingerMP

I've signed this amendment. I will be at Westminster on Wednesday to vote against this Bill again.
MPs will this week vote on a £2 BILLION cut to disability benefits. 750,000 people will lose £3,000 a year. This includes people who can’t use their hands, need help to eat or drink and have debilitating incontinence. My Amendment would stop this cut. Ask your MP to back it.
