Hi @nedboulting, thanks as ever for your commentary. May I , as a long time cycling visitor to the area point out that La Tour de Crest is the highest dungeon in France (they built them upwards then!). Also, correct pronunciation is like "Cray" rather than in "crest of a wave".
Please help @QburyTunnel raise £6,500 for the ‘pre-action stage’ of a Judicial Review of the Government's decision crowdjustice.com/case/save-quee…
It would cost around £16m and generate £3 in social, economic and tourism benefits for every £1 spent on it. But somehow it is too expensive?! Meanwhile £billions will be spent on low value road schemes. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/j…
Police officers are the only group of public servants who are legally barred from joining a trade union. Instead, we are forced to join an organisation that many of us no longer trust and which, in my case and others, has actively victimised those it was supposed to protect 1/5
Our campaign to #BreakTheMonopoly relaunches via @CrowdJusticeUK this afternoon at 1500hrs. Until then read about the action we have taken so far. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 solicitorsjournal.com/sjarticle/poli…
Such an important feature on TotalEnergies by @itvcycling and @mrendell on the Tour de France rest day programme this evening. In support: a repost of this drawing.
Thanks to everyone who has thought kind thoughts about my small contribution to the Tour coverage over the years. My most important item since my first Tour in 1997 is in tomorrow night’s rest day programme (8pm, ITV4). Tune in, if you can.
Oh dear, what a pity. But what about that Coldplay couple tho
AI data centres should be powered primarily on renewable energy. When there is no wind or sun, just run queries slowly and no training. People and businesses have to adapt to using renewable energy when it's available. @biofuelwatch actionnetwork.org/petitions/say-…
Apparently off normal topics, but this theguardian.com/commentisfree/… by @pollytoynbee addresses what I think is the central issue with regard to the prospect of the UK getting a party in charge which either denies Climate Change or refuses to try to reduce ghg emissions.
The government-owned company missed or is likely to miss 5 of its 12 key performance indicators, including: The number of people killed or seriously injured on the strategic road network #RoadSafety
Our assessment shows National Highways delivered significant improvements for road users in the second road period, from 2020 to 2025. However, the company must now learn lessons from its missed commitments as it prepares for the next road period. 📊 orr.gov.uk/search-news/or…
Perhaps our biggest error of judgement was misjudging our own capacity to solve our existential problems: despite our own dire projections, we created an ever more complicated jungle of a civilisation that is finally beginning to eat itself alive.
In 2023, Amsterdam introduced a 30 km/h limit. Many arterials were lowered from 50 km/h, 4,500 signs installed, 140 lights reconfigured, and 200 km of markings adjusted. Aiming to improve safety, liveability, and accessibility, 80% of the road network is now at this key speed.🧵
Just part of the astonishing history of pro cycling, Thanks @mrendell !

"Fuel duty could be frozen again in cost-of-living boost" Every time the Treasury 'freezes' fuel duty it is actually cutting it, because it's not increasing fuel duty in line with inflation A true 'freeze' would be if fuel duty rose in line with inflation every year
This is one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen. More than 200 people lost their lives in the Valencia flooding DUE TO RECORD BREAKING EXTREME RAINFALL. You can hear people screaming in their cars. Yet the world moved on without huge alarm or discussion. It’s madness.
£650 million to subsidise EVs & so more cars on stuffed roads, but we can’t afford £16 million to restore beautiful Victorian infrastructure. Political priorities @MayorOfWY @Heidi_Labour @SHinchcliffe This is the wrong priority! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
At some point when you see homes/cars floating down the streets of America, India, Yemen, Turkey, and more, all in the space of a week, you start thinking something’s up, right?
