Let's talk Realpolitik, the West and China. My view: unless the West get its decarbonisation targets & deadlines in line with China (& India), reducing CO2 is 100% risk and 0% reward. A thread...! 1/n @INArteCarloDoss
The West committed to eliminate its 30% of global CO2 emissions by 2050. Neither China nor India have such timelines. Unless the West decarbonises in synch with China & India, taxpayers in the USA, Europe or Japan will carry all of the cost but none of the benefits of net-zero.

A Fukushima moment for wind & solar? Quite possibly. With cyberattack now ruled out, the below hypothesis gains traction: the blackout was likely triggered by low inertia from high solar & wind output, leaving the grid exposed to frequency swings (whatever the reason) and…
And remember, installation does not equal production.
Chinese solar additions in June fell 85%. New capacity additions surged in April and May as developers rushed projects into place ahead of new rules that would reduce solar subsidies and shift solar to a market pricing system starting June 1.
Only a question of time before ordinary people will systematically sabotage data centers until politicians will not approve them anymore, subject to electricity prices.
The capacity auction at PJM Interconnection — the biggest US grid — are out: $329.17 per megawatt-day, a 22% increase from the previous year (and a ~300% increase from the 2023-2007 average). PJM serves ~67 million people across 13 states. Statement: insidelines.pjm.com/pjm-auction-pr…

Right. Here is the catch: China‘s State Railway Group (SRG) accumulated $1 trillion (¥6.3trn) debt for the construction of 48,000km in HSR, more than the gov debt of Belgium. SRG hardly turns a profit operating it too (everything ex Beijing-Shanghai makes losses), which…
🚄🇨🇳☝🏻China has the world’s biggest HSR network. Over 70% of the world’s HSR are in China. 10,000 km of HSR was added during 2021-2024 to over 48,000 km in total. China’s total rail length has reached 162,000 km.
So I said it: if we get a TACO on copper tariffs earmarked to be 50% starting 1 Aug, global copper prices would crash. Why? Because the tariff bluff created a distorted market: surpluses in the U.S., shortages everywhere else. Prices soared despite no change in underlying demand…

Why too much noise. Banque de France’s headquarters in Paris’s first arrondissement are so plush that they led one former US central banker to remark that “France could go back on the gold standard if they took all the gold out of the Banque de France.” on.ft.com/4nVdCvz
„Rutkowski and Schiller say this means future fusion power plants would be able to produce 5,000kg of gold a year, per gigawatt of electricity generation, without reducing the power output or tritium-breeding capacity of the system.“ on.ft.com/46nsVXN
The surest way for Ukraine to lose independence is by allowing corruption to run unchecked. This just happened… „Anti-corruption NGO AntAC said the actions were about silencing Nabu and Sapo as they close in on Zelenskyy’s inner circle.“ on.ft.com/3TQmhlp
