Personally saddened by the Sycamore Gap felling. Used to get a proud kick from people’s ‘wow’ reaction when doing tours of Hadrian’s Wall. But somehow the sentence feels as senseless as the crime. Couldn’t they have given the silly sods 4 years community service planting trees?

Dartmoor is hot & dry. Fire risk high & great caution needed. In adapting to climate shifts we might wish to expand temperate rainforests there & elsewhere. The open moorland is tinder dry. Rainforest 200 metres away is cool & relatively moist & at lower risk of combustion.
