COVER REVEAL - God is an Englishman: Christianity and the Creation of England - coming out in April 2025, published by Forum... This has kept me busy for quite a while... 🧵

⚔️On this day in 306, Constantine the Great was proclaimed Roman Emperor. Did you know about his deep connections to religious liberty, Yorkshire, and the birth of the English nation? 🧵
⛪️@BijanOmrani writes how Aethelbert followed in the footsteps of Constantine, carrying the mantle from Rome: "No longer were the kings in England who accepted Christianity from the hands of Gregory and Augustine petty warriors with no heritage or standing beyond their passing…
A good time was had by all at our summer party, reports Parliament Square thecritic.co.uk/fun-in-the-sun…
Truly delighted to receive in to-day's post this inscribed copy of @BijanOmrani's essential GOD IS AN ENGLISHMAN. One of the finest books I've read since Tom Holland's DOMINION. My review is forthcoming in @EuroConMag's Conservative Bookshelf.
My memory could be playing me false but I swear Warwick University once had an English department with people who could speak the language.

Looking forward to Bijan’s book - been saving it as a summer holiday read
Last minute trip to @StBartholomews to hear @WalkerMarcus interview @BijanOmrani about his new book 'God is an Englishman' on how Christianity shaped England. @holland_tom you got a mention along with Donoghue v Stevenson! You can hear @holysmoke interview Bijan on this…
Such a pleasure and privilege to return to @StBartholomews for this conversation with @walkermarcus and a wonderful audience!
A fascinating talk yesterday, hearing @BijanOmrani speak about themes related to his book, ‘God is an Englishman: Christianity and the creation of England’; hosted (brilliantly) by @WalkerMarcus & @StBartholomews. I look forward to reading this book!
Roll up!
Last chance to get tickets for tomorrow's exciting book chat between @BijanOmrani and me on England today and how it has been formed by Christianity (and what this means for tomorrow).

Freed from wax but garrotted by a million lanyards: that’s progress!
EXCL: Government will stop using wax seals on official documents. Seals were first used by Kings 1,000 years ago and have been used by the Govt for 150 years. It will be scrapped as part of red tape slashing drive to speed up govt for taxpayers Fab story by @SophiaSleigh
19. 'God is an Englishman: Christianity & the Creation of England' by @BijanOmrani. The argument of this book, that English national identity is inseparable from its Christian roots, is well made and convincing. Above all it is a delightful, charming, inspiring, book. Read it.
I've seen a number of adverts for "Great Gatsby Balls" in various cathedrals including Canterbury, Guildford, Coventry. Isn't this a bit cringe, so to speak? I know the cathedrals are cash strapped, but this is a bit much.

A voice crying in the wilderness. Remarkable.
I gave a speech today in an empty chamber. It’s about the need for a Christian restoration.
It’s not possible to hate this Government enough. They can’t pretend this is anything but shameless gerrymandering because they want 16 year olds to be treated as children in every other way

I was born to a generation that could buy things once - and keep them. A CD. A movie. A piece of software. Your were given a physical thing with a set price that you controlled. Now, everything is a 'subscription'. More expensive over time. Taken off you for 'violating' terms…
Looking forward to this next week...

Dear #publishing friends… do warn your content creators about @WeTransfer rights grab (even in their paid service) and also warn your Rights Directors that using this service (even internally) breaches your own contracts and grants them first use rights.
Wouldn’t this put me in breach of contract? I’ve signed a contract granting first rights to my publisher and by using @WeTransfer, I’d be granting them these rights 😳 They would even be getting the artwork *before* my publisher, because I use them to send the publisher my files
Probably not a valid contract term (thinking of Lord Denning's Red Hand Rule) but ridiculous all the same. Makes one weary of using @wetransfer
How is this acceptable, @WeTransfer? You’re not a free service, I *pay* you to shift my big artwork files. I DON’T pay you to have the right to use them to train AI or print, sell and distribute my artwork and set yourself up as a commercial rival to me, using my own work.😡
