Would you consider this family that accessed private SPED interventions as giving their child an edge or perhaps helping their child reach their potential? Maybe edu discussions should center around low value practices versus high leverage practices. tatyanaelleseff.com/breaking-barri…

🚨🚨🚨Dropping later today (have to go get my hair done now) the TEN things EVERY parent should do the first TEN days of the new school year! (Soft copyrighting this so don’t take my idea you know who) Each day for the next ten days I’ll give one action and an explanation. I’m…

I look forward to reading @TheTonus FAPE perspective. BTW, families w/ disabled children continue to navigate IDEA, regardless of where they are educated - public, private, or homeschool. We are forced into the broken system to access services (or an ESA) for our children.
How are COEs and districts interpreting the reading comp research? IMO, this is the root cause of Sold a Story 2.0. Ping @jillbarshay @alexanderrusso
5/ This thread by @tiffanyphogan will guide you through the tax payer funded research to boost oral language, listening comp, and reading comp. Ping @1in5advocacy
I wonder if Hugh Catts would agree with you? ga.dyslexiaida.org/event/feb19-20…
Great article. It's ironic because so many interventions follow the science of learning but few think to use those structures for preventing reading difficulties.
🎙️ The Literacy View is back Aug 1! 🔥 School Year Premiere: @LeslieLaud + think SRSD on writing + executive functioning 🧠✍️ 🎤 Then we’re live in Montana at Big Sky Literacy Summit! 👀 Going too? DM us or comment! #TheLiteracyView #BigSkyLiteracySummit #ScienceOfReading
I always wondered if someone was documenting the history of whole language/balanced/ comprehensive literacy.
Well done @AnnieMaryUnger! This first publication from your @latrobe PhD is a deep dive into the history of #RunningRecords & their extraordinary uptake in spite of their evidence-void. This is a major contribution to the history books with many contemporary lessons. @ehanford
Disappointing to see writing assessments cut (fingers crossed those can be reinstated). We could benefit from as much data as possible about writing outcomes as this is often marginalized compared to reading and mathematics
The STAAR test Extended Constructed Response craziness is ...CRAZY. Districts had FOUR days (over a weekend) to review all tests and resubmit for human scoring. Dallas ISD and this smaller ISD saw ~40% of scores go up. At elementary, this is the only accountability metric.
On the eve of the #TxLege special session, let's talk about the inaccuracy of STAAR Reading Language Arts AI scoring, and how these errors provide undergraded results to students, parents, and teachers, that then propagate through the state's Accountability System. A #TxEd 🧵.
And check out this GAO report. With all the focus on proceduralism, IDEA still can obtain a reasonable level of standardization of classification across states. @Moms4FAPE gao.gov/products/gao-1…

Like I said,...
Look, my DMs are blowing up with FAPE moms spilling the tea on your so-called “invitation.” So, I’ve graciously unblocked you to see if this olive branch of yours is legit or just another PR stunt. If you want me to even think about accepting, step up and show me the…
The entire book can be downloaded for free at the link below. Siobham Gorman has a chapter (11) with the perspective of families, including those initially denied FAPE. Chapter 10 presents the legal perspective regarding fighting for FAPE. archive.org/details/ERIC_E…
Thank you, Dr. Wolf 🙏 Also, I appreciate @matthewladner too!
The 2001 book led to a federal commission which led to reform recommendations that largely were ignored. It would be interesting to do another book but, on the compliance front, my sense is little has changed. 😢Yes, LD designations are much more accurate now. 👍
