🌊 Deep-sea menage à trois? 🦠 A sponge, an archaeon, and a bacterium rely on carbon & vitamin B12 exchange — until a virus crashes the party! Discover how ammonia-oxidation and viral lysis drive this unique #symbiosis! doi.org/10.1093/ismejo… #Metagenomics #DeepSea #Microbiology
Just published! Even NASA cleanrooms—designed to be ultra-clean—harbor resilient, novel bacteria. 26 new species were found, some forming biofilms, resisting radiation, and producing biotech-relevant compounds. Check it here: microbiomejournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
Exciting news! Our manuscript has been accepted 🇦🇶🧫 Congrats @VIVIPC16 and thank you for the collaboration! It was great to be part of your MS project and paper! #AntarcticMicrobes #Biotechnology
Thrilled to announce our paper "Enhanced UV-B Photoprotection Activity of Carotenoids from the Novel Arthrobacter sp. Strain LAPM80 Isolated From King George Island, Antarctica" is accepted in @HeliyonJournal Stay tuned for more details!
Will the last one out please turn off the lights? Future is 🦋

Moving to the place where the sky is blue. Will still be active here for a while, but planning to move definitely in a couple of weeks. For those of you who are interested, see you on there! Also, new username is in my profile here.
🚨 New paper out about the uptake of coral probiotics by sponges! Check it out nature.com/articles/s4152… #sponge #coral #probiotics @Alegarritano @peixotors @NathaliaDelOrd @InesRaimundo_ @hdmvillela @MMicrobiomesLab
So much dark carbon fixation being done by microorganisms and still many governments don't take in consideration microbiology in their work groups on climate change. This is a long due call for action by our community. Congrats to @peixotors and others for the initiative!
Emergency bulletin! 14 journals have co-published an urgent call for the deployment of microbial solutions against climate catastrophe, by @peixotors et al. nature.com/articles/s4156…
Pre-print 🚨 alert! We used AI protein structure prediction to analyze ~10,000 Borg proteins, revealing potential capsid proteins & viral-like features in these massive elements from methane-eating archaea. Could they be the first archaeal giant viruses? Check it out!
Awesome conference so far and really happy that I had the opportunity to share a bit of my PhD with the Australian microbial ecologists
@Alegarritano has worked incredibly hard to characterise a simple sponge holobiont to improve research efforts into ecological and evolutionary features of microbe-animal symbioses! #AusME2024
Great resource for all the scientists out there who, like me, have stopped using BioRender since their recent update to the terms and conditions. bioart.niaid.nih.gov

Join me in Congratulating Prof Raquel Peixoto for her appointment as the new President of the International Society for Microbial Ecology!!!🥳👏👏 @peixotors @KAUST_News @KAUST_BESE @ISME_microbes
One week ago I had the opportunity to present a bit of my final PhD chapter at #ISME19. Science should be a collaborative effort, and I was very lucky to have met incredible people in my journey. Thank you all for having played a role my career.
