National reference tests don't show that 'much more' is being learnt since intro in 2017. No big changes 2017 to 2025. And on PISA - it's not as the spin doctors claim. I touch on it here... theconversation.com/englands-natio…
Reading for pleasure: a 'luxury belief'. 😮 A reminder that for the functionalists in education, there is only competition, curriculum, grades - not joy, engagement, happiness.
Paging @bphillipsonMP
Major new study finds that 4-day workweek (with no reduction in pay) leads to: --> higher productivity --> more revenue --> Less stress, fewer feelings of burnout, and improved overall health and well-being.
Schools have a strong story to tell of not letting test results drop in spite of 15 years of austerity and the impact of that on the biggest determiners of educational outcomes. But a story of big improvements due to academisation and curriculum change is not evidence based.
Even if anyone could prove this was the case, which they can’t, the follow on question would be at what cost and is/was it worth it.
English children are learning much more than they were before he came in, which makes an interview worthwhile.
I guess we need to decide what we mean by learning more. Learning more as in packing more and more in for them to know. Or learning more as in they retain and can use what they learn, more.
Just landed in Heathrow Airport T3. Went into M&S. Three staff working. I said to them “NO LIKEY”. None of them responded with "NO LIGHTY". I have a voice recording & their names to report to M&S. We must confront them every time.
Play is important at all ages 🥰 #wellbeing
This is How you never get older
This is the price you pay for having bad taste in music 🙈
Total chaos at Wembley as they insist standing ticket holders who’ve passed the turnstiles also queue for wristbands - but have run out. Oasis have just come on and we can’t get in to see them. More farce. Had resisted the stupid prices and then was offered a ticket today so…
I strongly suspect our results will drop next time round as the circumstances post COVID were distinctly fishy...
Learning how to pass tests, possibly The mechanics of reading, probably That they or their feelings matter, to accept others, collaborate, share, look after their mental/physical health, or to be resilient and happy Not on his watch His whole tenure is a vanity project
Retention and recruitment is still pretty bad, I think. I hope it will be a 'balanced' (*cough* nuanced) account. Doesn't happen very often by politicians.
The early 00s made the biggest impact on primary...since then we have had an endlessly ballooning curriculum. Shoe horning subject coverage in at the expense of depth. Less better should be our mantra. Decoding isn't reading. RfP dropped under him...was seen as a waste of time!
Lol 🤣 been a teacher since 1990 and seriously refute that. Have GCSE results shot up? Are y7 so much more knowledgeable? Nope..nope..we cover loads. Retention..poor. Are children acing their reading so much more? Nope..
Do people in the English education system believe that children are learning much more now than before Nick Gibb was education minister? Seems like a bold claim.
English children are learning much more than they were before he came in, which makes an interview worthwhile.
Are you looking after your shock absorbers? Those colleagues who watch your back, take the knocks, look after you without you realising? lnkd.in/eT8j9ksx
I like this idea. It's pragmatic, it's about working with where you are rather than forcing it. Some days are more focused than others and that's OK. It chunks a daunting whole day of study/work into short bursts of manageable focus.
For my forever learners.
I had to have a peek at this peak-pendantry that piqued my interest 😅
I’m not very pedantic about language and grammar but the fact that no one seems to know the difference between pique and peak is really starting to worry me
And most of the senior leadership team were awarded bonus payments.
Ofsted has missed nearly all internal inspection targets this year, its staff are less positive about working there and one in 10 left, its annual report and accounts reveal schoolsweek.co.uk/missed-inspect…
I just learned on Garden Rescue that softwood decking is meant to go grooveside DOWN! The grooves allow airflow underneath & stop the wood rotting. People put them grooveside up as they think it's for grip but it's actually slippier becos there's less surface area to grip on 🤯
