Independent Member of Parliament for Blackburn
I chose a photograph inside Blackburn Cathedral for my Christmas card this year as it reflects the heart of everything that Blackburn is and can be. With its beauty, history, and rich heritage, the cathedral also constantly invites the modern to be showcased on its site.

Why is there a crisis?! Why are their homelands no longer the safe, secure sanctuaries they once were? We need to stop blaming the powerless and start asking the real questions. Who created these situations? Who has and still is profiting from this upheaval?
Asylum seekers crossing the Channel definitely did help create the crisis; they were safe in France!
Working class people with genuine concerns about the safety of their communities did not create the refugee crisis. Neither did asylum seekers risking their lives to cross dangerous bodies of water. While one side faces off the other, the real culprits escape the real questions.
Christian values?
Illegal migrants don't need hotels in Canary Wharf, they need tents - lots and lots of tents. Securely detain them in a tented camp on MOD land until they can be sent home. Why is this even controversial?
This beautiful farmland in Bedfordshire is at risk of being covered with 1,900 acres of solar panels - larger than 1,000 football pitches. This is wrong. Put solar panels on car parks, roofs or brownfield sites rather than on our green and pleasant land.
My Independent Alliance colleague, Ayoub, has been at the forefront of representing the working people of his constituency. At the forefront of doing the work Labour promised but failed to do.
This Government is scapegoating frontline workers to cover up the failures of a Labour-run Council. It appears that the Commissioners they hired blocked a deal against the Council’s Managing Director's wishes. This strike could have come to end a long time ago’
State signatories to the Genocide Convention, the UK being one, need to immediately intervene to stop the genocide in Gaza. Words of condemnation mean nothing. We need intervention now! Children are starving to death. Empty words will not feed them!!
It's not far right for communities to have legitimate concerns about the safety of their local areas. The authorities failing to listen to people are creating a vacuum for the far-right to fill.
The safety of local communities, especially children, absolutely must be prioritised over anything else. Politicians and authorities should really take the time to listen to and assure local communities and act on their fears and concerns.
Water privatisation has been a complete & utter failure. It is absurd that the government's report into the water industry didn't even consider public ownership. That's not a report. That's a political broadcast for the private sector. Put water back into public hands, now.
This weekend: Israel murders one hundred Gazans queuing for food Also this weekend: British police arrest hundreds of pro-Palestinian protestors Orwellian.
As Gaza's children starve, trucks filled with life saving aid are waiting at the border, unable to reach the starving civilians. An absolute shame on our government and the international community at large for failing to intervene to stop this horror!
Thanks Einstein. P.s. the people of Blackburn really don't like children being starved to death or just genocide in general. They voted for me to speak out against it.
You represent Blackburn. It’s in the United Kingdom. Look it up on a map.
14 years wouldn't be enough!
🚨NEW: Channel migrant who sexually assaulted a teenage girl with special needs has been jailed for 14 months
Children are being starved to death in Gaza. #Genocide
They need resettling because they helped Britain, so why on earth should a third country have to step in to save the day?!
Yeah too sodding right. Support the tiny number who actually helped us, by resettling them in a third country - NOT IN BRITAIN. Put those Afghans in a country (including those already here) near Afghanistan, NOT in Britain. This isn't difficult to understand, Mukhtar.
Best bet would be to stop bombing other countries into the stone age, stop dreams of "nation building" and "spreading democracy", and just to let people live in the lands they call home, and would never leave had foreign interference not destroyed their lives and futures.
My view on the Afghan mess is clear. I would resettle the tiny number who actually helped us, including those currently in the UK, to a safe third country. Afghanistan is a backward country, with a medieval culture - we do not need more Afghan men in Britain. End of story.
An absolute pleasure to attend the 7th edition of the National Festival of Making in Blackburn. The town centre came to life with creativity and community spirit. An inspiring event highlighting the heart and talent of Blackburn and a celebration of what the town has to offer.
