Vision Zero plans need to include measures to reduce car use. Delivering the Safe System on its own is not enough; cities also need to reduce driving. The latest AVZ briefing highlights recent research showing that when car use falls casualties fall too. actionvisionzero.org/2025/07/14/avz…

London needs speeding enforcement to focus more on 20 and 30mph roads. 92% of London's KSIs occur on 20 and 30mph roads but only 58% of speed enforcement does. If it was proportionate, another 280,000 speeding offences would be detected on these roads. actionvisionzero.org/2025/07/02/avz…
It’s astonishing Wimbledon insists on deploying large SUVs in our crowded capital despite excellent public transport and mounting evidence of the danger to children. Why cant guests use more normal sized cars and/or tube like most Londoners? #carspreading thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/art…
Yesterday there was another serious collision on Kenworthy Road involving a driver and a cyclist. How many more KSIs until @TfL take action and make this road safe for cycling? #VisionZero @SarahWoodberryD @mayorofhackney @willnorman @CarolineRussell @ActionVZ @hackney_cycling
It shouldn't take a death for action. This is clearly not a safe cycle route as in its current designation (I say designation as it was never designed for cycling). We need to hear what @TfL are planning to ensure there is never another casualty or fatality on LCN 8. #VisionZero
New AVZ briefing looking at the (provisional) 2024 road casualty statistics in London. Key points below but fatalities up YoY; pedestrian fatalities up 24%. KSIs down slightly. People walking, cycling & motorcycling make up 81% of all London KSIs in 2024. actionvisionzero.org/2025/06/23/avz…

Since 2015 cycling in London has increased by 75% and the injury rate has fallen by 36%. When we install protected cycle lanes and LTNs more people cycle in safety. 😊
We had over 500 attendees at our last 20mph webinar. Our next 90 minute, free webinar on 24th June will place default 20mph with targeted exceptions in the context of eliminating road deaths and serious injury. Thanks to our great speakers bit.ly/3G01NDd
20mph saves lives: casualties have fallen much further on 20mph streets, especially for kids. New report on long-term figures from 20mph schemes introduced between 1989 and 2013 - some LAs have questions to answer tfl.gov.uk/corporate/safe… @HSscorecard @20splentyforus @ActionVZ
If disqualified and dangerous drivers are to be spared prison (as new Independent Sentencing Review proposes), punishment should include longer bans, vehicles confiscated and electronic tags (to ensure they are not driving whilst disqualified). actionvisionzero.org/2025/06/05/avz…

Being hit by an #SUV increases the likelihood of death or serious injury Findings from analysis of data on 600,000+ collisions include children 82% more likely to be killed if struck by an SUV or LTV rather than smaller vehicle. lshtm.ac.uk/newsevents/new…
New analysis shows that lowering speeds on our roads is saving lives. Every death on our roads is one too many. Slower speeds not only protect the most vulnerable, but help create safer streets. We’ll continue working to eliminate death & serious injury on the transport network.
B Unit RPU are out conducting traffic enforcement including speeding, construction and use and fatal four offences. #roadsafety #fatalfour
New research provides conclusive proof that 20mph in London is saving lives 🚶🚲🚌🚗 14 yrs of analysis at 150+ sites - reviewed by experts - shows: ❤️40% fewer deaths (vs 7% drop on roads where no changes were made) ❤️75% fewer children killed & 50% fewer kids hurt.
Preliminary findings of research from SUV Alliance finds that "...that heavier cars are more likely to be involved in fatal collisions and average car weight in the UK is increasing, which may lead to a rise in fatal collisions if the trend continues." actionvisionzero.wordpress.com/wp-content/upl…

Just out AVZ blog and briefing marking two years on from the launch of the @TfL Vision Zero Enforcement Dashboard. Lots about it is good but borough level data still missing and stats show sharp falls in careless driving and mobile phone offences. actionvisionzero.org/2025/04/15/lon…

Latest briefing focuses on speed enforcement in London. Key points: Yes speed enforcement is up in London BUT long way off the 1 million target especially with v high number of cancellations. More enforcement needed on 20/30mph roads + more driving bans. actionvisionzero.org/2025/02/19/avz…

Cars are getting 1cm wider every 2 years. That may not sound much, but over time it adds up, and they're showing no signs of slowing down 😬 That's #carspreading. Our campaign is calling on city leaders to make parking fairer by varying costs based on size of car. Why? 🧵1/8
Demand more police enforcement on London's roads. MOPAC is consulting on a draft police & crime plan for London (2025 to 2029). Ask for the plan to contain far more about crime on London's roads. Please respond by 12th Feb - suggestions in our briefing: actionvisionzero.org/2025/02/10/mop…

At 20mph, if someone steps out 15m ahead of you, you will have time to stop. If you're driving at 30mph.. you will hit that person and still be travelling at ~ 20mph. #TwentysPlenty #VisionZero
This is simply a shocking read. The increase of pedestrians killed is very alarming as well as the number of people involved in collisions in or outside a London bus. More needs to be done to make Londons highways truly safe.
