20's Plenty for Us
@20splentyforus
We are the voluntary organisation supporting local people wanting 20mph or 30km/h as a default urban/village speed limit, with higher limits set by exception.
It's great to see that the success of the Welsh 20mph national urban/village default limit was featured on the European stage at the @ETSC_EU annual PIN conference. Kaarina Ruta presented on behalf of the Welsh Local Government Association who co-ordinated implementation across…

WelshGov releases July 25 report on the first 18 months of the "award winning" default 20mph limit for urban and village roads. Speeds down, 26% fewer casualties and little change in journey times. Lives saved, liveability increased bit.ly/40rfUZl

Of course some people don't like 20mph/30kmh limits. They probably don't like any other limits. But they are the very people who need those limits to reduce the impact of their driving on community life. So expect opposition to such limits, it shows how much the limit is actually…

The evidence on the wide benefits of 30kmh and 20mph limits keeps on coming. Denying the evidence is callous and so detrimental to community health and well-being in city, town or village where 30kmh/20mph should be default. bit.ly/3GuRur4
🚶♀️🚲 Safer streets start with slower speeds. Speed was a factor in 61% of injury collisions in Enfield. Evidence shows that 20 mph limits lead to 42% fewer crashes and dramatically improve survival rates. Have your say: letstalk.enfield.gov.uk/20mph #SaferStreets #VisionZero

This report from Amsterdam on 30km/h limits for arterial routes in the city echoes the results from London, Edinburgh, Wales, Scottish Borders and other places where 20mph has bee set on arterial roads. A huge benefit in terms of reduced casualties and better liveability for all.
In 2023, Amsterdam introduced a 30 km/h limit. Many arterials were lowered from 50 km/h, 4,500 signs installed, 140 lights reconfigured, and 200 km of markings adjusted. Aiming to improve safety, liveability, and accessibility, 80% of the road network is now at this key speed.🧵
I read that humans can tolerate being collided with up to about 20mph & fair pretty well because we can run that fast, & so are designed to meet those forces, whereas above that we are susceptible to serious injury & death. 30mph is arbitrary as a speed limit - it’s devastating.
Car insurance went up 10% last year to £281. We didn't bother switching. It's dropped to £218 this year. Perhaps, like Wales, the fact I live in and am surrounded by 20mph default London boroughs had made a difference? 🤔
We compliment @PowysCC. In response to 67 requests for particular roads to change from the default Welsh 20mph to 30mph (just 0.05% of the Powys population) it has completed a thorough, measured, transparent and reasoned report. bit.ly/45ftLVe

Good to see New Yorkers gaining the benefits from the city saying 20's Plenty across wide areas where people use the streets walking and cycling as well as driving. bit.ly/46kqOE8

In Wales millions of people who can't drive, haven't got a car or van, or have concessionary public transport passes are benefiting from the "award winning" 20mph default urban/village speed limit. 26% lower casualties with 630 fewer people injured or dying in those public places…

More evidence of wide-area default 20mph limits saving lives as another authority sees results from 20mph implementation in Wirral. bit.ly/45Y22JI
