When will people wake up and realize that the entire global supply of fresh water is from solar desalination of the oceans and there is absolutely zero cap on how much energy or water we can (and should) produce.
In the grand scheme of things the state is more complicit for not developing water supplies than the Boswell’s are for pumping water that is rightfully owned.
Boswell Farming Company intent on pumping so much the Tulare Lake bed could sink another 10 feet, taking the small town of Corcoran along with it. sjvwater.org/boswell-silent…
and desert water
On Earth, we need to cultivate desert power.
The quest for intelligence has always required water, since the beginning of time.
This A1 story on Meta’s data centers, and others, use of water in an age of AI is incredible. /1
Water should be free (historically it always was). But the cost is now rising bc it is driven by large scale infrastructure (aqueducts, pipelines, dams). Desalination doesn't require broad infrastructure - it is purpose built where needed (saltwater is ubiquitous). So mass…
If water is truly abundant on earth but we choose to live with self-imposed scarcity, then humanity is holding back nature rather than nature limiting humanity.
When will people wake up and realize that the entire global supply of fresh water is from solar desalination of the oceans and there is absolutely zero cap on how much energy or water we can (and should) produce.
The ability to control & reliably expand the supply of water via mass-scale desalination is a prerequisite for U.S. dominance in compute.
When will people wake up and realize that the entire global supply of fresh water is from solar desalination of the oceans and there is absolutely zero cap on how much energy or water we can (and should) produce.
“We are going to build desalination”
California should flourish. But right now, our cost of living is insane, wildfires rage, homelessness is everywhere, and red tape chokes our ability to solve any of it. I’m 6th generation Californian Dick Lucas and I’m running for State Assembly to unshackle California.
Yes - California should be a net exporter of water to the entire arid west.
With water in California, not just abundance, but hyper-abundance is possible.
If only there was some abundant clean energy source the american oil and gas industry could drill and produce today.
The world needs more energy—in particular, more American energy. The growth of American energy production is a win for our citizens, for our geopolitical standing and for our allies. We need energy that is affordable, reliable and secure. economist.com/by-invitation/…
high output, low energy, mass production desal

We have the technology to make water, an endless supply of water - but we are choosing not to.
Can we please make more water? We have the technology to do mass scale desal and end Western water poverty forever. We don't have to fight over scraps. We don't have to dam up distant valleys. We don't have to suck the aquifers dry. We just need to end the ban on desalination.

liquid desalination --> brine mining
New DeSci project! We are funding research at Australian National University to produce thermodiffusion desalination devices using 3D printing.
The U.S. can do it better - we don't need ugly, coastal megaplants. We can have hundreds-thousands of small, modular, solar-powered distributed desal systems placed strategically in areas with saline water (groundwater, ag discharge, industrial sources, etc). This is much…

*desalination is the killer app for solar* The reason for this is water production doesn't require 100% uptime, saltwater sources are distributed (e.g. brackish groundwater) and cheap solar heat can be used to concentrate and recover salts post treatment.
Given the lowering cost of electricity, the speed at which solar can be installed, and the growing efficiency of desalination, harnessing water from the ocean is largely overlooked!
If you drill deep enough there is saline groundwater everywhere - it can all be desalinated. No need for a long pipe from the ocean.
I just haven’t heard of a situation in which we need to seed clouds… if we need water, it’s everywhere. You can run a pipe from the ocean and call it a day.

Dear @realDonaldTrump; This an open letter to the Trump administration to dismantle the water authorities that have failed to maintain adequate water supplies and water prosperity in the American west and to put in place a new, national desalination strategy. If we are to…
