#Mentoring is not about creating mini versions of ourselves. It’s about empowering our students to be independent thinkers & to be proud of their unique voices. It’s also about having faith in our students & having their back in times of difficulty & self-doubt.
You’re not alone if the science career path feels unclear—especially as a new faculty member. @jenheemstra’s book is here to help you find direction. ✨ This book is the mentor every early-career scientist needs. #STEMCareers #AcademicLife #SciMentor
First copies of my book are here!! As a new faculty member, I realized that in addition to my research job, I also had a leadership job…and I wasn’t prepared for that. This book is the guide I wish I’d had then, with the goal of helping others now. jenheemstra.com/book
In a study published in @NatImmunol, #UTSW researchers uncover how the hormone SCG2 binds to the LILRB4 receptor on myeloid immune cells, helping cancer cells evade the body’s defenses. This discovery could pave the way for new immunotherapy approaches. bit.ly/46sVZgC
🌟Congrats to my colleague & friend, @jenheemstra, on this incredible milestone! 👏🏽 Your journey has been, & will continue to be, an inspiration to so many. I’m looking forward to reading your book 📕 . I’m sure it will help guide & support others on their own academic journeys

From valedictorian to dropping calculus my 1st semester of college. It wasn’t the material; I’d taken calculus before. But the challenges of being a first-gen student & guilt of leaving my family, made me doubt my place. Don’t be afraid of asking for help; that was my mistake.

As a #FirstGen college student, I've often walked into unknown territory, but each time I grow stronger. It's key to embrace failures as lessons, not setbacks, and never let fear stop you from taking the first step. Every experience helps you craft the path forward.
