First copies of my book are here!! As a new faculty member, I realized that in addition to my research job, I also had a leadership job…and I wasn’t prepared for that. This book is the guide I wish I’d had then, with the goal of helping others now. jenheemstra.com/book

The weight carried as a first-gen college student can be heavy at times, but I assure you that the reward of paving a path for others to follow makes the journey unique and worthwhile. #FirstGen
I am encouraging deans and DH to purchase the book as a gift for incoming faculty. Good job once again @jenheemstra!

Reposting for a wide distribution. Many of my colleagues haven't faced career uncertainty of the level that is going on now and are struggling with that feeling. @jenheemstra 's got some good words here.
Navigating uncertainty does *not* mean you are accepting what is happening around you. Rather, it helps you maintain your strength and focus so you can stand up for your values and advocate for what is important. Check out the video for four steps for navigating uncertainty.
