@waltonmom
Mom of 2, President of the Ontario Federation of Labour, organizer, activist, mental health advocate, EA by trade. My opinions are my own.
As premiers from across Canada met, members joined @HealthCoalition, fellow unions and community allies to rally in defense of public health care. United in solidarity we sent a strong message, this is OUR public health care system and we will never stop fighting to protect it.
It has to my my attention that there was not personal invitations by @fordnation rather “Hey I’m having Blue Rodeo play tonight you guys should come” Workers of ON & labour leaders are worth more than last minute invites We need to be on the list from the beginning @OFLabour
This afternoon invitations from @fordnation were extended to all Fed Presidents to attend the reception tonight! Looking forward to these connections taking place. As the Pres of @OFLabour I see the need for ongoing communications w/ Ford I hope this is a sign of future chances
Great start - but until which time that all workers have access to paid sick days, short term disability leave & long term disability this is small comfort. These programs are something that the govt should investigate to allow for protection for workers & economies of scale
✅ We’ve delivered on our promise. No worker should ever have to choose between their health and their job. That’s why Ontario now provides up to 27 weeks of job-protected leave for workers facing serious illnesses. Already in effect, this leave gives workers the time they need…

While @fordnation didn’t invite Labour to events & left prior in the middle of a breakfast with nurses & labour reps, @Dave_Eby spoke with fed presidents for over an hour & @WabKinew stopped by to connect. This is what leadership, who values all labour, looks like. Take notes

Why did you leave the CFNU breakfast early Doug? Not even halfway through the keynote speaker. The disrespect was noted by folks in the room. Working for workers requires working with ALL workers @OFLabour
I’m in Muskoka at the Council of the Federation sitting down with @ABDanielleSmith of Alberta and @PremierScottMoe of Saskatchewan to sign an important agreement. Tune in: youtube.com/live/836yi1KUl…
I guarantee that leaders pictured here (& those unable to attend) are the ones fighting for workers & their communities! While premiers huddle at Fords cottage, these folks are networking & building a strong labour movement from coast to coast to coast! @OFLabour @CanadianLabour
This morning, the Federation of Labour Presidents Committee convened at the OFL office before heading to their own Council of the Federation 2025 events. It is tradition for host premiers to invite Labour Federation Presidents to Council of the Federation events - @fordnation…
Meanwhile we go without drs, we cut programs in colleges, we cut jobs in schools, we don’t have $10 a day child care, ERs are closing etc But hey, act like Trump to beat Trump.
In a bid to impress the other premiers, the OPP has brought multiple vehicles to the Deerhurst resort for the COF meeting. #onted
This meeting happens annually in the host province of the chair But typically not at the cottage of the chair. In Halifax, NSFL was invited to events. This year Ford ignored all labour presidents Ford did leave very early from CFNU breakfast, without speaking w/labour
NEW: Three days of political meetings begin today in Muskoka. All premiers meeting, along with the prime minister. Also, nursing representatives and Indigenous leaders all taking part. Tonight: dinner for the leaders at Doug Ford’s cottage. #OnPoli globalnews.ca/news/11294278/…
Good grief. How much did this Disney trailer cost the people of Ontario?! What you don’t see 10000 workers cut from colleges Wild land fires out of control First Nations having treaty rights trampled Closed ERs Low housing starts Unemployed workers incl trades @OFLabour
This morning, Canada’s premiers arrived in Muskoka for our Council of the Federation meeting. Together, we’re united in standing up for Canada from coast to coast to coast.
Fun fact, while it is traditional for host premiers to invite Labour Fed presidents & others to events during the Council of Federation - no such invitation was sent out by Ford. Never worry, labour leaders from across the country will be there holding their own events @OFLabour
Canada premiers have now arrived at Deerhurst resort where their OPP detail is setting up for a photo op. #onpoli
This! Laws are being passed to fast track development, yet not a single government has fast tracked legislation ensuring clean water, housing, etc @OFLabour
As we prepare for this last minute meeting with the Prime Minister, these are the situations our communities are facing. We cannot talk about resource development until our people have access to basic necessities, like food and water. cbc.ca/news/canada/th…
The 1st of the charter challenges on ON Bill 5 & federal C5 is being filed. @fordnation record of wasting taxpayers money $ & losing is on display yet again. Remind me how he is the one to “Protect Ontario” again? Watch presser at 10am tomorrow #OnPoli ola.org/en/legislative…

“Canada extracts wealth from our lands and territories, transfers those resources to the provinces, and First Nations are left out entirely," said the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Kyra Wilson in a statement on Monday about the Liberals’ intended budget cuts.
Advocates are warning that cutting billions of dollars from the federal Indigenous services budget, as the Carney government intends to do, could worsen the quality of essential programs and may spark lawsuits that would cost more money in the long term. cbc.ca/news/indigenou…
The neck gaiters issued to Ontario forest firefighters are “not acceptable as a stand-alone control to reduce exposure,” documents show. trib.al/W73e5Hf
Do not forget. The Premier of Ontario @fordnation approved this request to the federal government. Do not fall for his aw shucks folks story. Ford is a racist.
NEW: Ontario’s environment minister is now apologizing to First Nation chiefs for any “confusion” his letter caused when he asked the federal government to not reintroduce a bill that would enshrine clean drinking water rights in law. globalnews.ca/news/11285079/… #onpoli
So @ToddJMcCarthy apologized to Ontario First Nations: “I apologize for the confusion caused by the previous letter.” If someone ever apologizes to you this way,, they think you’re dumb. Also, original request to drop the clean drinking water legislation wasn’t dropped.

There is an old saying “Better to sit quiet and be thought a fool, than open your mouth and prove you are”
Bruce Fanjoy, everyday proving what a Klass Ass he is. Good luck winning 5 more bud…..
Good to see hypocrisy call out hypocrisy. Good grief @OFLabour
Bruce Fanjoy lied to his constituents. He gets booed at parades and he abused the number one rule of respecting his constituents - which was first noticed when he diminished the service of the then incumbent who had served them for 20 years. We disagreed with David Pratt but…
This is racism full stop. The resignation of @ToddMcCarthyCPC is the just the beginning. I am not buying his apology any more than Ford’s Todd sorry he got caught. @OFLabour
Several dozen First Nations in Ontario called for the resignation of the province’s environment minister Wednesday after he asked the federal government to not reintroduce a bill that would enshrine clean drinking water rights in law. globalnews.ca/news/11282109/…
