Classical liberal with an interest in science and tech. I share studies and book excerpts I find interesting.
My new, very broad defense of free-markets. There are some unorthodox arguments in there which you might not be familiar with. I highly recommend reading it if you're interested in econ !

Far-rightists who think they’d fare well under fascism are the same as far-leftists who think they’d be writing shitty poetry in the sun under communism because neither seems to grasp they’d be among the first bodies in the ditch

He's right (I'm Canadian)
Now think about the fact that despite all this, Canada has less than 75% of America's income, its economy has barely grown in 30 years, and now it's going to start killing its depressed kids to save money. How bad do you have to be to lose to a bunch of retards like America.
I prompted Chat GPT with guidelines for rationality from Superforecasters (Base rates, bayesian updating, etc.). Conclusion : It is very unlikely Israel acquire most of the land in Palestine through peaceful means.
Prompted Chat GPT to be more rational with the superforecaster handbook. This is the probability it gave to your claim LOL :
This paper on US suburbs reminds me of this classic. When do rich people like density? When it means they can live close to their work, walk to fancy shops, go to the theatre, and be surrounded by rich people aka Europe. Can lead to multiple equilibria in preference for density.
Nice paper and a theme of SI Urban so far: people don't like density, will pay to get away from it. Graph shows home price changes as you cross the line into a neighborhood with a higher minimum lot size. 1/
many socialists essentially make up utopian fantasy sci-fi in their head and then say the current system is broken because it has flaws compared to what they made up in their fantasy.
I used to work in a factory with a middle aged cambodian guy who I talked to at lunch. his story of arriving to the US started with being five years old and hiding in a pile of bodies to avoid being killed by the Khmer Rouge
There are plenty of reasons why Scandinavian economies don’t count as socialist—an underappreciated one is that they make it easy to start a business (that is, to exercise productive private property rights)
Regulatory burdens in Canada are increasing pretty monotonically. www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/en/pub/11f0…
France is particularly bad at integrating immigrants. The large welfare state and rigid labor law probably don't help.
This is why degrowth is bad, as discussed on my substack !!
Economic growth also benefits countries that don’t experience it. Thanks to the innovation that occurred in wealthy and free societies, life expectancy in the DRC increased by nearly 20 years between 1960 and 2021, even as its income per capita fell substantially.
Art Nouveau incorporates the fractal, organic geometry of nature, whence our notions of beauty evolved, into modern civilisation. Nature blending with civilisation.
Obsessed with this Art Nouveau doors by Ernest Delune in Brussels, Belgium from 1900s.
America is a huge country. This means their dumbest 1% are mind blowingly dumb. This gives them their reputation as "stupid americans". But their top 1% are the smarest and most capable elite in the world.
