“Roughly two-thirds of economic historians surveyed rejected the proposition that the efforts of labor unions were the primary cause of the drop in work hours before the Great Depression.”
Unions bled and died for the 8 hour day. Just look at the massive 1886 strike led by the Knights of Labor, which ended in bloodshed.
Capitalism has dramatically increased the spare time enjoyed by everyone
Politicians who claim that we should dramatically raise taxes on billionaires should first demonstrate that they can efficiently allocate the tax revenue they already have and only then call for more
The US government spends more each year than the combined wealth of all American billionaires. So the real issue is that the government is inefficiently allocating trillions of dollars

Capitalism is better for the planet than the alternatives:
My strong suspicion is that there are better uses of half a trillion dollars
The idea that PBS should get anything less than $500 billion dollars a year is so alien to me. Why do you hate art? Why do you hate children?
There are plenty of reasons why Scandinavian economies don’t count as socialist—an underappreciated one is that they make it easy to start a business (that is, to exercise productive private property rights)
