The T. S. Eliot Prize is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Michael Longley on 22 January 2025 at the age of 85. Michael won the 2000 T. S. Eliot Prize for his collection The Weather in Japan. Our deepest sympathies to his family. tseliot.com/prize/a-custod…

Love and sympathy to the Longley family. Michael was a great poet and a truly wonderful person - learned, clever, witty, fun, talented, kind & mischievous. He won the T. S. Eliot Prize in 2001 and was a personal favourite of Mrs Eliot's.
