A non-hit piece about a Starting Strength gym (one specifically focused on elderly people lifting barbells, no less) in the New York Times. Did we heal the nation?
This @nytimes story about "older" (>40y) people lifting is wonderful (and a brilliant idea) - and I guess @SS_strength's secret is out, as Dr. J. Sullivan's book "The Barbell Prescription" has been shared for years like samizdat among enthusiasts... nytimes.com/2025/07/26/wel…
Typical funny moment at a chess meetup recently when a guy and I had both forgotten each other's names, but both remembered the King's Gambit and English Defense blitz games we played six months ago
No. Just go do stuff, pay attention and learn from it incrementally. 98% of How to Blablabla with Anyone is a lie. Starting Strength is an exception, and Robert Greene is good (and nowhere near as cynical as his reputation), but both are just adjuncts to you actually doing shit
If you're in your 20s and 30s, read this... 1.

I used to think Design Patterns weren't worth learning. Personally, I've seen people use a complicated design pattern to solve a simple problem. But Uncle Bob says Design Patterns is a masterpiece. I'm a simple person, so I'll give it a read. Are you with me?
Nice post by @LucianaMorales on @chesscom with notes from me and others. Before GothamChess and the Botez sisters, we had Jeremy Silman. He taught me the weird secrets of a board game and made it fun. chess.com/blog/Chessable…

This is most likely a fantastic book. Once upon a time, I spent many delightful hours reading Dana's blog instead of doing a boring finance job

Je suis d'accord. Je suis apprendante française pour comprendre code de échecs en C.
No
initially thought it was birthday problem, but: Literally 1 in 960 (0.1%) since both events use the same starting position for all games in the round.
What are the odds this happens on the same day nearly at the same time?
Learned recently that the French word for bishop is fou, meaning "fool," which is amusingly apt for this guy

Thanks to my genius coworker for finding this! If you have been getting this error from OpeningTree on mobile: navigate to "www dot openingtree dot com" instead of "openingtree dot com" and it will work again.
