Weather somewhat less kind for the second half of our Swiss hiking holiday - but landscapes perhaps more dramatic because of it. Another 40.5 hiking miles to add to my total. #nhs1000miles

A day of contrasts on the Somerset/North Devon border: damselflies on the river Exe; a visiting Shropshire Morris troupe; Lynmouth harbour; and Exmoor ponies in the evening light, with deer behind

Unexpected literary - and gastronomic - tourism passing through the Gloucestershire village of Slad, where Laurie Lee spent much of his life. 1st pic is the memorial window in the church, the food is at his local, The Woolpack

Superb Wainwright exhibition currently on @ArmittMuseum, Ambleside. Congrats to @AW_archivist on putting this together to mark the 70th anniversary of the first Pictorial Guide. Don't miss it!

Fascinating insight into the history, art & craft of @fellranger1's line drawings @ArmittMuseum this morning. Here he is with a diagram from the 'Borrowdale' volume of his Fellranger Guides (Cicerone). Spot the Wainwright influence! Many thanks Mark for a great talk.

Ecological perspectives in Beatrix Potter's work: a great talk by @DrPennyBradshaw @HighamHall this afternoon. Now eagerly awaiting publication of Penny's 'A to Z of Beatrix Potter' (Bloomsbury Press) early next year ... @CumbriaEnglish

And the readings star Jean Scott-Smith (the President of the Lakeland Dialect Society) & John Campbell, with supporting cast Phillip Gage and Louise Green. They're all native dialect speakers and fabulous performers. It will be great fun!
This will be a wonderful event not least because the readings are introduced by our MA graduate @sue_wilkinson who has researched the history and development of these plays in depth 📚🍃
Guaranteed to be entertaining and informative! Hope to see you there ...

51 hiking miles this week, in the stunning Bernese Oberland. Highlight was a 12-miler to the Eiger glaciers (c. 1000 metres up, 1250 metres down) #nhs1000miles @KitzingerCelia

Atypical #nhs1000miles Sun eve post from me. Just 18 hiking miles in the last fortnight, for a YTD total of 692 miles. Have been catching up with old friends and being a city tourist! Here are some pics of London by night:

Sharing @KitzingerCelia's world this week: Royal Courts of Justice, Inns of Court, & First Avenue House - where I attended a Court of Protection hearing (my first)

Indeed! And our statement to the press - when we came out of court - included the sentence: "This judgment will not stand the test of time".
That judgment has not aged well! 🤣 bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/…
A walk down memory lane (aka The Strand) this week. It's 19 years since our High Court case seeking legal recognition of our marriage in England & Wales [bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/…] was heard at the Royal Courts of Justice:
