The journal system isn’t just inefficient — it’s distorting science itself. At Astera, we’ve opted out. No more journals. No shaping work around “publishable units.” Just good science, published faster and more openly. Here’s why we believe publishing needs a complete rethink:…
I absolutely hate this trend. These 'technical reports' are not scientific. They aren't falsifiable, don't reveal any real insights. Can't believe bioRxiv accepts them since they are basically just advertisements, and poor ones at that. This is why peer review is actually good.

🔬 This summer through the new BioCoDE program, @VanderbiltU introduced high school students to the world of biomedical #research. Participants had many questions answered like, what do researchers do all day? How do you get into grad school? And more! 👉 medschool.vanderbilt.edu/basic-sciences…
Can an AI model predict perfectly and still have a terrible world model? What would that even mean? Our new ICML paper formalizes these questions One result tells the story: A transformer trained on 10M solar systems nails planetary orbits. But it botches gravitational laws 🧵
Check out our preprint⬇️asking “Has AlphaFold learned physics?” and providing a general framework to evaluate predictive biomolecular models!
1/7 Physics govern all biomolecular processes and learning physics will allow deep learning models to predict accurate structures while providing the fundation for function prediction. Has AlphaFold learned physics? Preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… #AlphaFold #Biophysics
