"By this book you shall live, by this book you shall preach, and by this book you shall be judged at the last day." W. S. Plumer, as he handed a small Bible to each Columbia Seminary graduate.
"Paul, a servant of Christ" would not sound very impressive on social media. Better "Paul, senior lead pastor at whatever free grace covenant church, PhD from X seminary, founder and executive president of Paul's ministries"...
Christopher Ash on evangelical Christians being unconsciously docetic when they think about Christ's humanity. (Commentary on the Psalms, volume 1)

Let us remember that, though the psalms were sung long before the Lord was born from Mary, they were not sung before he was the Lord. Augustine (on Psalm 139)
It would appear that the righteous man of Psalm 1 is none other than the Son of Psalm 2...
Psalms 1 & 2 link in various ways: Ps 1 begins with 'blessed' / Ps 2 ends with 'blessed' The last verses of both psalms link 'way' + 'perish' 1:2 'meditates' = 2:1 'plot' (both are the verb hāgāh) Sitting scoffers in 1:1 contrast with God sitting in heaven laughing in 2:4.
“Many are called, few are chosen” (Mt 22.14) sounds like a nice, memorable epigram in Greek (polloi kletoi, oligoi eklektoi) but not in Aramaic. Wonder whether the Lord originally said this in Greek...
The great thing about Calvin's Institutes is that, as soon as you start reading them, you want to open your Bible.
Augustine audaciously challenging the poor for their self-righteousness. (Sermon preached at Carthage)
