Covering the Nationals ✍️ @washingtonpost | email: [email protected]
Here’s what we know about the last 24 hours and how they could shape the Nationals future: washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/07…
For the first few innings, the Nationals saw Chase Burns’ slider and couldn’t hit it well. But slowly, they made adjustments and cracked the code in their 6-1 win: washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/07…
FINAL: Nationals 6, Reds 1. The Nationals couldn't solve Chase Burns' slider early. And then they did. Konnor Pilkington earned his first win in over three years.
Jacob Young makes an amazing catch in center field. Grass is green.
Umm...Konnor Pilkington with two scoreless innings. He just struck out the side in the sixth. He's made a few hitters look foolish.
Quick note on this: Moving Crews to the 60-day IL is procedural. He’s still progressing well in his rehab.
The Nationals selected the contract of reliever Konnor Pilkington from Triple-A Rochester and optioned Mason Thompson to Rochester on Tuesday. Washington transferred Dylan Crews to the 60-day Injured List.

Well. Tomorrow is my last day at The Washington Post. It’s been a total thrill.
Defense hasn’t been too bad, either:
At 90.6 MPH, this was Brady House's strongest throw of the season. His previous high was 85.6 MPH (2x).
Monday night’s slugfest, one the Nationals won, wasn’t always the prettiest affair — unless you focused on the swings from Josh Bell and James Wood. Those were swings to behold. On two guys who showed their worth: washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/07…
FINAL: Nationals 10, Reds 8. Washington finished with 15 hits. Big nights for Josh Bell, James Wood and Brady House. The teams combined for 16 walks.
16 walks by the 14 pitchers who have thrown this evening.
A really good night at the plate for Brady House, who just ripped a two-out double to give himself a three-hit night. He's looked much more comfortable at the plate recently.
That is a 115.9 mph double from James Wood, a loud knock that draws an audible reaction from the crowd here.
This game became close in a hurry. It was 7-0 Nats at the end of the third. It's 7-5 in the top of the fourth, and Miguel Cairo just pulled Jake Irvin.
I think he just recreated the Jumpman logo to catch that Jacob Young throw.
Jake Irvin: Quite the athlete.
No one was covering second base for the Reds, and Riley Adams took advantage. Drives another run in -- and Jacob Young drives another one in right after -- as Washington goes up 7-0 in the third. Look at the Nationals go.
