The Nationals have the No. 1 pick on Sunday. It’s a monumental draft — one that lets the team improve upon past failures to draft & develop hitters. @EmilyGiam and I looked into the Nats' drafts and why they’ve struggled since 2012. Here's what we found: washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/07…

Quick note on this: Moving Crews to the 60-day IL is procedural. He’s still progressing well in his rehab.
The Nationals selected the contract of reliever Konnor Pilkington from Triple-A Rochester and optioned Mason Thompson to Rochester on Tuesday. Washington transferred Dylan Crews to the 60-day Injured List.

Well. Tomorrow is my last day at The Washington Post. It’s been a total thrill.
Monday night’s slugfest, one the Nationals won, wasn’t always the prettiest affair — unless you focused on the swings from Josh Bell and James Wood. Those were swings to behold. On two guys who showed their worth: washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/07…
FINAL: Nationals 10, Reds 8. Washington finished with 15 hits. Big nights for Josh Bell, James Wood and Brady House. The teams combined for 16 walks.
16 walks by the 14 pitchers who have thrown this evening.
The Nationals continue to hit the ball with authority. They scored two runs in the sixth on two-out hits. Amed Rosario doubled and Jacob Young singled. It's 10-6 Nationals as we head to the top of the seventh.
This game became close in a hurry. It was 7-0 Nats at the end of the third. It's 7-5 in the top of the fourth, and Miguel Cairo just pulled Jake Irvin.
I think he just recreated the Jumpman logo to catch that Jacob Young throw.
Jake Irvin: Quite the athlete.
Josh Bell's stats over the last month (don't think MLB has updated this with tonight's stats.) He's been really solid at the plate after a poor start to the year:
Josh Bell got every last stitch of that baseball. Nats are up 5-0 with his solo shot beyond the bullpen in right. He's up to a .700 OPS.
The Nationals have signed the following players from the 2025 Draft: 11th Rd. – Jack Moroknek – OF – Butler Univ. 12th Rd. – Ben Moore – LHP – Old Dominion Univ. 13th Rd. – Tucker Biven – RHP – Univ. of Louisville 14th Rd. – Nick Hollifield – C – Univ. Alabama-Birmingham 15th…
Nationals injury updates Dylan Crews - Completed workouts and baseball activities over the weekend without issue - Took ground balls, fly balls, played catch, hit off the tee, flips, hit BP and ran the bases - Will continue progression towards rehab assignment
MacKenzie Gore had an opportunity to open his second half with a strong performance. Instead, he put the Nationals in an early hole they couldn’t climb out of. “I was just bad today.” washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/07…
FINAL: Padres 8, Nationals 1. MacKenzie Gore had his worst outing of his season. Washington loses its first series out of the all-star break.
Quick check-in Jarlin Susana's outing for High-A Wilmington: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2Ks.
