There's been lots of coverage of SCOTUS green-lighting Trump's firing of the Democratic commissioners at @USCPSC, and I feel like I gotta correct one misunderstanding, esp by @nytimes. They weren't fired bc of their votes on batteries - the substance of the vote was irrelevant.
The clerks at the store where I get my lunch said a man came in last week and asked them where the public entrance to 26 Federal Plaza was. He locked his bike outside, and it’s been there since.
If you’re a NYer of a certain age—here on 9/11—photos of the missing posted on surfaces downtown will put a cold pit in the bottom of your stomach. It should. nygroove.nyc/lower-manhatta…

"Even understaffed, under-resourced and without a physical newsroom (Alden got rid of it in 2021), the Daily News routinely breaks crucial local news stories and provides the old-school in-depth local coverage the city has relied on for over a century" nygroove.nyc/nydn-union-dri…
WE FIXED IT: Obviously our successful rally had an effect on @NYDailyNews management, who felt compelled to “write” an op-ed. Unfortunately it’s full of mischaracterizations and missing key facts. As journalists we couldn’t let that slide, so we got out our red pens…
Come for supporting the workers, stay for the divine judgement of @DaveCoIon
Legendary street reporter Kerry Burke at our rally yesterday: “[Alden president] Heath Freeman, he listed a mansion in Montauk for $27.5 million. We’re not asking for Montauk mansion money, we’re asking for living wages.”
JOIN US - Come to Monday's rally and stand for local news and a fair contract for @NYDNUnion actionnetwork.org/events/join-us…
HAPPENING MONDAY: Join us as we hold a rally for a fair contract and a free press in NYC. The Defend the Daily News event will kick off at noon Monday outside City Hall.

The levels of obfuscation here...
The view from the mayor’s official transcript: Where @katie_honan and I punted our questions to @C_Sommerfeldt , it’s labeled as “crosstalk.” And where @madinatoure asked a Q on behalf of Chris, his name is redacted.
Our statement on Mayor Adams' comments and conduct at today's press conference:
The mayor of New York City, describing the freedom of the press as a “luxury” and intimating that my colleague is doing “something wrong” for asking a question—at a press conference, no less.
Adams called it part of "the beauty of America" that he could refuse to call on Chris — for more than three months now. "Other countries, you don't have that luxury," he said of the freedom of the press, "other countries you're dragged away if you do something wrong."
Mayor Adams might have let our senior City Hall reporter @C_Sommerfeldt in the room today — a week after banning him for asking a question — but he doubled down on and refused to call on Chris. This even after two other reporters yielded their time to Chris.
HIGH NOON: Daily News Management tells Adams Administration to drop it's "plainly unconstitutional" ban on @C_Sommerfeldt by 12p Monday, or else. nydailynews.com/2025/06/20/dai…
Let’s say the quiet part out loud: Adams finds Chris “annoying” because he’s among the best sourced reporters on the scandal that’s plagued his administration. If the numerous allegations of corruption against the mayor were unfounded, why is he afraid to talk about them?
. @C_Sommerfeldt valiantly tries to get a question in to the mayor. Mayor Adams ignores him. “Don’t worry about it,” Adams says to his press secretary instead of answering the question. “Listen, we don’t caught up in people that want to be annoying.”
