Lecturer, Monash Uni. Research focus: animal movement, citizen science, conservation, global change. First-gen MS, PhD
I wanted to thank everyone for sharing the PhD opportunity in our lab. I received ~100 applications from all over the world and have found someone with the exact skills. There were many talented students with similar skills, making it extremely challenging to choose just one.
Rohan Brooker and co-authors find the ability of cleanerfish to adjust their activity in response to competition underscores the role of behaviour in maintaining cleaning networks on coral reefs. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs… @BBM_Wong
🌳Research published today by first-author @Liting_Zheng_E shows trees grow better when surrounded by different species — especially in wetter climates 🌧️ The study found a 7 – 13% growth boost in diverse tree neighborhoods. #iDivResearch @EisenhauerLab nature.com/articles/s4155…
A neat new study reveals that the controversial species-energy relationship exists. Temperature 🌡️ directly affects species richness confirming predictions from the MTE, while rainfall 💧 indirectly affects richness through its influence on productivity | doi.org/10.1126/scienc…

Studying plant functional traits, but limited to vegetative ones due to the lack of standardized protocols for regenerative traits? Struggle no more—our new handbook with standardized methods is now available as a preprint! #PFTs #SeedEcology #FunctionalTraits @IntlSeedSciSoc

New online! Alien plants and novel ecosystems in the Greater Tropics bit.ly/4kxmm8h
A new study by @ninad_mungi reveals that many alien plants initially act as passengers of global change, while others can become powerful drivers, reconfiguring ecological communities and catalyzing novel ecosystem dynamics. doi.org/10.1038/s44358…
We tested ways to improve Canada’s National Forest Inventory estimates by integrating #Landsat-derived #landcover data. Combining sample-based plots with wall-to-wall maps boosted estimation efficiency and helped track tree cover change. #NFI Baral et al. doi.org/10.1139/cjfr-2…

Our false head work is out! By analysing ~1000 butterflies, we found many traits at posterior end of hindwings evolved correlatedly, likely forming a trait complex w/adaptive function to dupe predators into thinking these traits together are actual head!! royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…
