Incredibly proud and grateful to be part of the #FlyWire team that made this happen. This was an immensely collaborative project - on every level from early open data sharing, to tool building, to analysis - over many years, across many institutions. It's been a fantastic journey
Big news! The fly connectome is featured on the cover of a special edition of Nature. This is all possible thanks to the collaboration of 292 members of The FlyWire Consortium! nature.com/immersive/d428… Check out the thread for an overview of the 9 #flywire papers published today
Congrats on an epic achievement. What a long way we've come!

"Big buzz! @Nature published ~a dozen papers on the most comprehensive map of neuronal connectivity to date, a connectome of a fruit fly brain! The FlyWire consortium includes @UW_NBIO affiliate Forrest Collman and Shanahan Fellow Sven Dorkenwald (@sdorkenw). @FlyWireNews
Largest brain map ever reveals fruit fly’s neurons in exquisite detail go.nature.com/4dx4qY7
Papers reporting the fly whole-brain connectome were published in @Nature today 🎉 and it was my honor to write a News and Views about them Congrats to @sdorkenw, @SebastianSeung, @MurthyLab, @gsxej, and the @FlyWireNews team! + great 🧵 below from David nature.com/articles/d4158…
Here it is! A huge milestone in neuroscience – the complete connectome of the fly brain from the FlyWire team (@FlyWireNews). In this special issue, we have 9 research articles. I’ll try to summarize them in a couple threads starting here 🧵

What should we do? 🔹 Tax vehicles by weight. 🔹 Test vehicles for pedestrian and cyclist safety (still doesn’t happen in the US) 🔹 Require a CDL for the most gigantic vehicles Left alone, this problem will only worsen. Governments must step up. slate.com/business/2023/…
Our paper with @RunzheYang describing the network statistics of the whole-brain connectome of a complete adult Drosophila brain is now available on BioRxiv! biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/6
We posted our pre-print today describing how the Connectome Annotation Versioning Engine (CCAVE) supports analyzing and editing the worlds largest connectomics datasets biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…! @sdorkenw @csdashm @AllenInstitute @SebastianSeung!
Very exciting to see this monumental work out! We are humbled and proud for having contributed to this milestone in neuroscience with our cell shape proofreading service. Thanks a lot for this awesome opportunity @dddavi and @gsxej

We mapped the connections between high order sensory inputs and memory cells in the octopus brain, first-ever reconstructed octopus memory circuit: data and principles of circuit assembly today in eLife doi.org/10.7554/eLife.…, joint work w/ @FlavieBidel @HebrewU& @Harvard,RT!👇
The release of the first whole adult fly brain wiring diagram marks a turning point for neuroscience: end-to-end reconstruction of neuronal information processing from sensory input to motor output. Congratulations to the entire team!
In our paper, we analyzed the ocellar circuit (image), produced a projectome between all brain regions, and computed information flow from input to output neurons. These barely scratch the surface of what one can now analyze! all ocellar neurons: flywire.ai/discover/ocell… 4/6
The current wave of interest is a good time to also promote our recently updated paper on neurotransmitter prediction directly from EM (a task humans struggle with). This was used to add nts -> sign to the just released full brain Connectome. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
This is really nice. They have statistically inferred neurotransmitter type. There are even some simple simulations running using subnetworks: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Building the FlyWire #connectome from the FAFB brain was a massive team effort. But neuroscientists need to find their favourite neurons in this huge dataset. We report an indexed parts list, systematically annotating all 127k neurons (Schlegel et al biorxiv.org/content/10.110…) 1/7
