I’m an English professor at William & Mary & for the first writing assignment in all my classes, I tell students to give me their version & a version written by AI. I tell them not to indicate which is which & I grade them both & make a guess. it’s never been hard to tell.

Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.

Who'd have thought a country that expelled its Jews 500 years ago, and which was fascist until 50 years ago, would see marches calling for death to Jews. I, for one, am shocked.
We are not (better than this). This country has continually found new ways to hate Muslims, which may be traced to the historical fact that the Europeans who violently settled his country hated Muslims.
There’s been such strange (awful!) conversations about Muslims/Islam in public the last several weeks. 20+ years on — I had hoped we, as a country, could be better.
