hi new followers! I know you’re here for kitty pictures but I’m a Shakespeare prof at William & Mary & a public scholar, writing on everything from early modern abortion to serpent handling. I post about my sobriety journey, pedagogy, motherhood, mental illness, & more. welcome!

can’t post the usual selfies because my eyes are all swollen up from corneal ulcers so here’s my beautiful hand.

the little grey one has claimed my husband’s office chair. what’s even cuter is how reluctant he is to move her.

people will find a reason to get mad at anything I post here. except:

this past semester I had one student say it was the best course they’ve ever taken & another say I shouldn’t be allowed to teach it ever again lol
I kept my last name (Andrzejewski) & gave it to my daughter. I’m proud of it. I’m proud my great-grandparents didn’t change it to make it more palatable & I love that my mother gave me a first & middle name to go with it. if my husband insisted I change it, I wouldn’t marry him.
sometimes i get sad that my last name wont be my last name anymore
one cool thing: my left eye is making a film to protect itself & heal. it’s so effective it’s making the antibiotics less effective, because they can’t penetrate it. this isn’t necessarily good but I’m proud of & in awe of my body.
things that suck about having corneal ulcers: 1. cannot write in my journal 2. cannot see my kitties in all their cute glory 3. constant panic about going blind, despite doctor’s assurances 4. worried I’m scaring my eight-year-old 5. definitely don’t feel pretty—husband will…
went to urgent care for what turned out to be corneal ulcers & the good news is I’ve been directed to lie down in a dark room, which is what I want to do anyways given this depressive episode I’m wrestling with. so now I can do so without guilt. yay.
