We’re going to need a bigger scale.. The exceptional mediterranean heatwave continues with anomalies close to 8°C above average. This is around 9 standard deviations above normal. 5 is considered an exceptional, once in a several thousand year event. This is EXTREME.

Contraction of midlatitude & tropical storm regimes with warming could explain the 21st century increase in Earth's absorption of sunlight and overall heating rate: doi.org/10.1029/2025GL…

Record warming in east then west North Atlantic during mid-2023 explained by weak winds that focused strong solar heating in shallower upper ocean layer (with possible minor effect of cleaner marine air) that contributed to record global surface warmth: doi.org/10.1038/s41586…

Our new paper updating key metrics in the IPCC is now out, and the news is grim: ⬆️ Human induced warming now at 1.36C ⬆️ Rate of warming now 0.27C / decade ⬆️ Sharp increase in Earth's energy imbalance ⬇️ Remaining 1.5C carbon budget only 130 GtCO2
