I couldn't say it any better than this brilliant woman. In fact, I couldn't say it as well. Amen. From the other place.

This essay is perfect. The career mindset, the total lack of self-reflection, the northern Virginia landscape of defense industry office parks and job fairs. The lower rungs of the cop state, an empire of Observe and Report. nplusonemag.com/online-only/on…
This was Germany today: police brutally beating up peaceful protesters against genocide in Gaza. Imagine destroying your own democracy so that another country can continue to commit genocide.
Trump gets way too much credit for talking about peace without delivering it. (And much of what he says — "peace through strength," no nation-building wars — is nothing new.)
New study from @TheLancet finds sanctions kill 564,258 people annually. It's long past time the US acknowledged sanctions are not benign "economic statecraft," they're a form of warfare that takes countless innocent lives.

Imagine the delusion, mendacity, pure evil of saying the World Food Programme, UN, Amnesty International, kids in Gaza, doctors in hospitals — all lying. That the photos are fake. That there’s no starvation in Gaza and, even if there were, it’s definitely not Israel’s fault.
Ukrainian dissidents - many of them now in exile, some in prison at home - are owed an apology by Western establishments who ignored, smeared, threatened, silenced them for pointing out repression, corruption and public resentment in Ukraine. They're also owed our attention.
Do I know that feeling...
Suddenly everyone noticed that he is a dictator, a thief, that his circle is corrupt, that no reforms are being carried out, that there is no opposition, that dissent is being persecuted. Well, well, quite the revelation.
From one of Ukraine's leading contrarians and polemics (whose acid daily YouTube streams are the guilty pleasure of many an upstanding Ukrainian pro-Western liberal)

Pictures of starved children feature on the homepages of German newspapers. SPD calls for an arms embargo, Greens for a partial one. Hundreds of diplomats call for an end to Germany's unquestioning loyalty towards Israel. Something has shifted. But so, so little and so, so late.
Photo 1: 84-year-old anti-war activist Lyudmila Vasilyeva arrested in Putin's Russia Photo 2: 83-year-old anti-war activist Sue Parfitt arrested in Starmer's Britain That is where we are headed. We must stop and reverse our democratic backsliding before it is too late.

It is unbelievable how nonchalantly leaders like @kajakallas and @vonderleyen continue to ignore (and stand against) intl law and the decisions of the highest intl Courts re Israel: among others, I shall remind them, the ICJ ordered Israel to: - withdraw its troops and remove…
The killing of civilians seeking aid in Gaza is indefensible. I spoke again with @gideonsaar to recall our understanding on aid flow and made clear that IDF must stop killing people at distribution points. All options remain on the table if Israel doesn’t deliver on its pledges
New article in the Lancet that concludes "sanctions kill": "Economic sanctions imposed by the USA or the EU were associated with 564 258 deaths... annually from 1971 to 2021, higher than the annual number of battle-related casualties (106 000 deaths)." "All economic sanctions…
I'm hardly a fan of Stephens, but it is remarkable how much of contemporary progressivism is just barely concealed expressions of will to power
Under international criminal law, media institutions can be held liable for complicity by omission, which includes failing to accurately report on the scale and nature of atrocities, or focusing on narratives that distract from the reality of the violence.
