The Rihel lab
@realRihellab
Zebrafish lab @UCL. We study the genes & neurons that regulate sleep 🐟💤
As reigning Greater London Chess Club champion, Prof Rihel takes on 14 club players at once. Final score- 8 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses against a tough group!

Whoa!
Incredibly proud to share this work, almost 6 years in the making, out in @ScienceMagazine!!! 🎇 We've known for over a century that eukaryotes of all kinds anticipate the seasons (think: hibernation, flowering, reproduction), but what about bacteria?🦠 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Check out our preprint on new recombinant tools for reversibly ablating excitatory and inhibitory synapses. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh… Thanks to amazing first author @AidaBareghamyan and collaborators @RichKramerLab , Dave Chenoweth and Robert Campbell.

Confusing stuff. Influx isn't efflux (clearance). Is it less gets in during waking or simply more on net gets out? Also, per intro, more Abeta is *secreted* during sleep deprivation, so its accumulation says little about clearance. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Very happy to have Boston Children's Hospital cover our recent Science paper on macrophages quality assuring stem cells by sensing ROS (dooming) or endogenous viral elements (grooming). This discusses our future plans. answers.childrenshospital.org/blood-cancers-…
I recently gave a talk on: Nonlinearity and network topology in multimodal circuits. Which you can watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=duzTIn…
And here's the one from @MarcusGhosh youtube.com/watch?v=duzTIn… Some impressive work is being done by a very cool team, join them.
I loved the website 1 million checkboxes. And now I am even more pleased to see what the nerds were doing with the site. Incredible! eieio.games/essays/the-sec…
Congrats @stevewilsonfish ! Such well deserved recognition …
Steve Wilson receives the Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard Award for outstanding achievements in genetics research using zebrafish as a model system at the IZFS meeting in Kyoto. Fantastic recognition of his contributions to the Zebrafish community and research achievements. #IZFS
For those who aren’t at #IZFC2024 in Kyoto or want to know more, Gaia, Kate, and I wrote a little piece for @the_Node earlier this year. thenode.biologists.com/earning-your-g…
