Why haven’t working hours decreased more? Keynes predicted substantial economic growth to lead to a 15-hour work week by 2030. He was right about growth, but way off the mark on labor/leisure hours. Why?
That's a catchy line from Jason Derulo's "Wiggle." If it's a metaphor for dropping zoning restrictions to let cities "booty go" with growth, count me in—Singapore-style efficiency vibes. Thoughts?
I'm gonna start flipping off the audience during lectures and if someone asks I'll say it's a Hayekian insight.
“In order to make people equal, you have to treat them differently. If you treat people alike, the result is necessarily inequality.” — Friedrich Hayek
Anyway, sorry I forgot, the side you support is justified by God/international law/justice and is only responding to provocations, while the other side is lying/racist/inherently evil/should be obliterated, and criticizing your side is minimizing the threat they face.
In Europe, thousands are being convicted for the crime of criticizing their own governments. This Orwellian message won't fool the United States. Censorship is not freedom.

I’d prefer if my feed was not 400 clips of random crazy people debating Medhi Hasan. Obviously, if you bring randos out to debate political commentators (as Charlie Kirk and others do too), you’ll hear lots of poorly reasoned, even grotesque takes.
Incredible.

Interesting anecdote. Now let's see some data.
to the dudes wondering how he was pushy or creepy - literally not a single woman in the world wants to be approached on the street by a random guy telling her she's beautiful. it's not a compliment. if you listened to women you'd know how afraid we are of all of you
I was aware that Paul Douglas, who co invented the Douglas-Cobb production function was a Senator — I did _not_ know that he enlisted in the Marines at age 50 in WW2, requested combat duty, and won two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star
Most recruits are 21 when they step onto Parris Island. Paul Douglas was 50. A professor, politician, and patriot, Douglas left behindb a life of comfort in 1942 to enlist in the Marine Corps-becoming the oldest recruit in Parris Island history. From enduring boot camp without…
Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.
"it's all about the quantities" yeah like I'd believe that from someone named "quant" any UNBIASED sources???
What do people at these AI policy programs do? I take it most of these people are optimistic about AI, so the policy answer is…let the markets ride?
Solution isn't "hire more conservatives". It's a from-the-top effort by universities, grant makers, funders, science writers to stop admitting, hiring, and promoting people who don't do unbiased, rigorous research. That's literally all we have to do - and should do! 10/x
Free speech, just not *that* speech

TRUMP ON POWELL: NOT PLANNING ON DOING ANYTHING
How much of the increase in life expectancy can be attributed to reduced infant mortality? This is actually possible to quantify. In Sweden, about one third of the increase in life expectancy between 1751 and 2024 is due to infant mortality, and roughly half for ages 0-4.
