We live on a much loved acre of rewilded land in the west of Ireland. Intense dislike of strimmers, chainsaws, spraying, new roads and cruelty to animals.
We've been fed a myth. Wildflowers - bad - dig out/spray/strim, replace with non native garden centre flowers. But why? Wildflowers are beautiful. Our wildlife feed & breed on them. Answer - wildflowers are free, everything else costs money...
Clover on a roadside verge, I think it's perfect. #wildflowerhour
#Pets Malnourished and terrified, this defenseless sloth is a victim of the illegal pet trafficking trade valued at ≤$10 billion p.a. The US imports exotic pets from over 100 countries—most to be poorly treated—while rescue centers overflow with pets suited to domestic life.

We welcome these measures, they will help, but why no quota on boats <18m, despite them taking 46% of all sprat caught in 2024? The fishery is still open to huge overfishing & is data deficient? This keystone species deserves watertight protection. @timmydooley @MichealMartinTD
Industrial trawling of sprat in Ireland’s inshore waters to be banned. This decision reflects the valuable input and advocacy of coastal communities throughout the consultation process.
Our response to the govt measures on sprat published Jul 22nd. We welcome the ban/quota on vessels >18m but are disappointed with no regulation on vessels <18m, despite them taking 7800 tonne of sprat in 2024. We need much more! @timmydooley @COSullivanTD westcorksprat.net/save-our-sprat…

Here on our plot there are lots of self seeded ash saplings. Our hope is that they will grow up to be healthy and ash die back resistant🤞
Isn’t this amazing! A needlefelted badger, and yet it looks so real. 🦡

#HariUpdate There’s a quiet weight in Hari’s eyes, a heaviness that words can’t quite capture. Eyes that have witnessed years of pain, fear, and silent suffering. Hari is a young bull elephant, but his body and spirit carry the burden of a long, difficult past. From worn-down…
Please beware of buying non native invasive species no matter how pretty they look. These plants can spread & spread & swamp native species that our insects depend on to feed and breed. thejournal.ie/readme/invasiv…
Yesterday I collected two yellow rattle seed heads. When I got home I was dismayed to see caterpillars emerging. Turns out they're caterpillars of the Grass Rivulet Moth & develop inside the seed capsules. I put them on yellow rattle here. Hope they'll be ok

The "Dark Mother of the Woods" with her vicious thorned limbs keeps wildlife safe from harm and makes sure that we know our boundaries ❄️ The darker sibling of the Hawthorn, the Blackthorn was believed in medieval times, to have been used by the Devil to prick, and draw blood…
Let them play, let them live. It is utterly disgusting that they are slaughtered for "sport".
They don’t need sound. They feel the frequencies. Meet the male May beetle — a walking antenna with senses that put WiFi to shame. Those extravagant fans on its head? Not for style — they’re leaf-like antennae called lamellate antennae. Each segment is a sensor pad, detecting…
I took yesterday morning off to remove 310 pounds of trash from the mangroves. I started at 6 AM but it was brutally hot by the time I finished at 12 PM. 31,570 pounds removed in total

Lots of knapweed & insects at Westport Quay. Plans are afoot to build a staggeringly expensive marina here and develop this into a 'proper' walk...just praying it will never happen.
Humpback whales now migrate south weeks earlier as ocean warms. "Acoustic and visual surveys show the peak of the southern migration in 2003 was in October, but by 2024, it was in the middle of September" Prof Rebecca Dunlop, University of Queensland phys.org/news/2025-07-h…
“Sometimes I liked the rain. Little by little the level of the water in the stream rose. And now I hoped it would go on raining, and that I would wake up to find it coming down hard. Perhaps I ought to put on Wellington boots and go and see what was happening.” ~C.R.Milne #rain
