It is clear that @rfaure2 knows the cardinal rule of presenting on sequencing algorithms, you never talk about the reverse complement. #genomeinformatics24 Very cool work on reducing sequencing using sketches that are sequences and can be fed into other assembly algorithms
Heading out to #genomeinformatics2024 remember to bring your adapter

very excited to announce that our math department at CMU has an open tenure-track position at the intersection of math and ML! CMU math is a fantastic environment for research in this area with world-class ML and CS departments next door. please apply! mathjobs.org/jobs/list/25418
this site, reverse-complement.com, is probably my favourite useless site that should be replaced with a shell script or one of the F buttons on my keyboard

This is a fantastic way to show the process of getting fast algorithms, not just the final result presented in a paper. It also highlights how to read from perf results and assembly to guide the development. Definitely not tl;dr
Allright, I think my blogpost on computing random minimizers is ready to share. Runs in just under 0.5s for a full human genome :) That's 60x-160x faster than some other implementations. As part of this, there's also a 30x faster ntHash implementation. curiouscoding.nl/posts/fast-min…

The polar opposite of this is what I call “minimize the attack surface”, a phrase borrowed from cybersecurity. If something is not necessary to get the message across, don’t put it in the paper
I think this paper is a Denial Of Peer Review Attack (DOPRA). It's kind of like a DoS (denial of service) attack. There is so much data, so many methods, so much code, so many figures, so many panels, so much supplement, so much text, that it is overwhelming. 18/

I knew Berkeley was crunchy but this is a bit too much
I couldn’t believe it before I tried it. Google needs to fix this asap..
7yo: bonfires don’t pollute Me: no they release carbon dioxide 7yo: but they don’t pollute as much as a nuclear bomb Me: yes, not quite as much as a nuclear bomb
