Please read the penultimate Sunday Take by the incomparable @danbalz, who is retiring: Consumed by Epstein, Trump has lost ground on the economy and immigration. Trump promised a new “Golden Age," but six months in, the public isn’t buying all the hype. washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/…
Texas Republicans successfully carried out mid-decade redistricting in 2004. Here's how it could play this time, via @pkcapitol washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/…
My annual mid-July plea to congressional schedule makers: July is consistently warmer & grosser than August. Plus, kids now go back to school in mid-late August. On left is average July temps in DC over past 14 years, right is August. Make summer recess July 1-mid August.

Vance cast a bunch of massive tie-breaking votes this year, from Hegseth confirmation to the reconciliation package. McCormick defeated Casey by 15,000 votes - out of 7 million, 0.2%. It’s a different Senate/Washington if Casey had won.
Senate today resumes debate at 10am on the House-passed $9.4B foreign aid & public broadcasting spending cuts recissions package with the vote-a-rama on amdts & final passage beginning at 1:30pm. VP Vance cast 2 tie-breaking votes last night so debate could begin. @cspan 2
Hand the ball to Saquon, watch him go 80 yards, hope your defense can hold off the opponent for final 70 seconds.

This might be the most on brand RonJohn anecdote. Everyone else is eating wings, talking golf, and he’s brandishing debt charts. Bravo @lizcgoodwin @MariannaReports @theodoricmeyer @ELaserDavies Trump’s reply is basically, lighten up, dude. washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/…

This is a dumb bit of history, but there used to be an actual office called the House Folding Room which was responsible for distributing publications govinfo.gov/content/pkg/SE…
They support their party leaders, but some House folks are ready to get outta here. @RepJamesComer is in back corner, travel ready look, no tie, with his bag over his shoulder. @SpeakerPelosi in back row on Dem side, her travel bag in her left hand. Jailbreak pending.
That’s the record. He’s now eclipsed the 8:32 of McCarthy from 4 years ago. “You got the record now, keep going,” one Dem yelled.
A key difference in a House “magic minute” from a Senate filibuster. In the House only the top 3 leaders get privilege of limitless speaking. So Pelosi (2018), McCarthy (2021) and Jeffries now are only one who speak. Senators yield for “questions” during f’busters.
Interesting stats via @pkcapitol — “ @askWick ex-House parliamentarian, compiled data that revealed steady drop in cong. productivity in opening months of past 4 presidencies. By July 1, 2009, cong Dems had sent 40 legislative bills to Obama’s desk …” washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/…
