Time flies when you're having fun. 45 years ago today in 1980, my dad dropped me off at the U.S. Capitol for my first job in the halls of Congress. There is no better place to work as a reporter. (Newsletter link in bio.)

With no action by the Rules Committee because of the dustup over the Epstein Files, the House will only vote on two minor bills on Tuesday. (My bet is a similar schedule for Wednesday, and then everyone goes home until after Labor Day. Stay tuned.)

President Trump going after Rep. Thomas Massie R-KY, who has committed the unforgivable sin of asking for the release of materials related to the Epstein Files

For those not on Capitol Hill, this is a House GOP debacle. They are so scared of votes re: Epstein that they will punt most of this week's legislative schedule and start their summer break early.
Two GOP members of the House Rules Committee told us no rule will be produced for bills this week, all because the GOP can't figure out a path forward on Epstein

Looks like the House GOP fear of having votes on Epstein is going to drive the House home early this werk

Democrats say they'll force another vote later today in the House Rules Committee about the Epstein Files. Rep. Virginia Foxx R-NC says no decision has been made about a House floor vote on the subject

If you're wondering why there will be no action until after Labor Day on government funding bills, Epstein, etc. - that's because this is the House schedule (yellow days in session).
Speaker Johnson tells reporters at the Capitol that there will *not* be a vote this week related to the Epstein Files in the U.S. House. No legislative action is envisioned until after Labor Day.

Conservative activists celebrate tax increases
The United States has generated $100.5 BILLION this year from tariffs as of JULY 14, the latest data available — 111.5% MORE than the same time last year. President Trump was right, and the experts were wrong - again.
Evergreen tweet from 2014 still stands
1976, 1988, 1994 & 1996 - the last 4 times the Congress finished its budget work on time (by October 1)
It should be noted that Trump doesn't say he wants Congress to cancel the August recess in order to pass government funding bills.
Trump wants the Majority Leader to cancel the August recess in order to approve ambassadorial nominations

The Big Beautiful Bill doesn't do that, but Republicans keep saying it does. Reconciliation bills cannot address Social Security in any way.
The OBBB ends federal taxes on Social Security benefits directly benefiting about 1.2 million seniors across Tennessee. After a lifetime of work, this is what providing peace of mind for our seniors looks like.
Cocaine Mitch hanging with El Presidente
I enjoyed celebrating the passage of One Big Beautiful Bill with President Trump and Senate Republicans tonight at the White House dinner.
House schedule for next week does not have any legislation related to the Epstein Files

. @RepMikeTurner of Dayton was one of only two House Republicans to vote against the president’s budget-cutting package - via @jamiedupree daytondailynews.com/local/turner-a…
Not many members could offer amendments on the House floor and get only 6 votes. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene R-GA did that twice tonight
