“It is essential that the BBC makes clear that it is committed to supporting UK jobs. Bectu has consistently argued for fair funding for the BBC... but this news plays into the hands of those who want to undermine the BBC and see it shorn of its public service responsibilities”
Head of Bectu @philippachilds on BBC plan to outsource jobs💬 We are extremely angry that the BBC has been developing these proposals without any discussion with the trade unions and that Bectu has only become aware of the project due to a leak🧵 theguardian.com/media/2025/jul…

We welcome the Prime Minister committing to look again at touring visas ahead of the EU summit. We need to see firm progress towards an agreement on touring visas and an end to the uncertainty for touring professionals.
PM tells @EmilyThornberry at Liaison C'tee that EU Summit is yearly "not just to monitor progress, but to go further". Hints that medicines and artists' touring visas are very much on the menu of "common sense changes... that have very little to do with the vote in 2016". ~AA
PM @Keir_Starmer on what could be next for 🇬🇧-🇪🇺relations: 💊 “I’d like to do more on medicines” 🎭 “Creative people… are still finding it too difficult” to cross borders 🚀 “By resetting the mood in Europe, we now have a chance to go further”

Head of Bectu @philippachilds 💬 “People think: ‘I’m going to keep my head down. I’m not going to complain. I want to have work in the future, so I’ll just put up with this behaviour until it comes to the end of my contract and I can go away and recover.’ theguardian.com/media/2025/jul…
As with other workplaces there should be zero tolerance of racist language, unacceptable behaviour and sexual harassment from all those working in TV including men with a high profile. @Bectu we welcome the decisive action taken following publication of this investigation

“This must be a learning moment for the industry and must drive concrete change. The dedicated, talented professionals who drive our much-loved film and TV industry deserve much, much better.” Head of Bectu @philippachilds reacts to the report on Gregg Wallace on Sky News 🎦
The report makes clear that inappropriate behaviour went unchecked for far too long. This is a real failure by Banijay to take these issues seriously and act accordingly. This must be a learning moment for the industry and drive concrete change. bectu.org.uk/news/bectu-res…

BBC drives talent and expertise across the creative industries in the UK. Plans to outsource and offshore jobs and expertise is a dangerous route to take @bectu
The BBC was once a world leader in digital tech for public good. Now after 15 years of gov cuts & total strategic failure it wants to outsource UK public media to US tech giants We support @bectu & @NUJofficial in opposing this attack on UK media workers theguardian.com/media/2025/jul…
