NewsGuild of New York
@nyguild
The union for media workers @NYTimesGuild, @ReutersGuild, @nbcnewsguild, @condeunited & many more. Inquiries: [email protected].
We rallied with our friends at @NYDNUnion to call out the obvious: big venture capital firms should not be stripping our local press to make a measly profit.
Let Heath Freeman and Alden Global Capital know that the @NYDailyNews journalists need (and deserve) a fair contract to protect local news in NYC. Sign the petition and show your support for the @NYDNUnion actionnetwork.org/petitions/stan…

The rally took place just before a Council meeting at which Councilwoman Carmen De La Rosa intro’ed a resolution calling out the destructive practices of News’ owner Alden Global Capital & strongly urging the predatory hedge fund to reach a contract deal. nycclc.org/news/calling-o…
Huge congrats to Brendan Griffith on being sworn in as @CentralLaborNYC President! We’re proud to continue fighting alongside you to lift up NYC’s working families and continue strengthening this great city! ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏻
The U.S. Postal Service is under threat of privatization and Wells Fargo has led the charge with a blueprint to help big corporations cash in on our public Postal Service. Join us Thursday, July 24 at 11:00AM at 535 7th Ave to say the US Mail is not for sale!
Ryanne was shot in the head for doing her job as a journalist. When gov targets the press, it’s not just an attack on reporters—it’s a violation of the First Amendment and the public’s right to know. We’re proud to join @ACLU_SoCal & @LAPressClub to demand accountability.
We can’t be neutral about attacks on journalists and the First Amendment. We stand proudly with @LAPressClub Media companies must stand up. Journalists have the right to do their jobs safely. Not in a union? Reach out to us: [email protected]
“The blood of journalists is quite literally being spilled in our streets. And the companies that employ these journalists are telling them to put a sock in it.” Watch @LAPressClub's @adjoro explain why this is not just a press freedom issue — but a labor issue too.
Our @NYDNUnion fought back immediately when @NYCMayor banned @C_Sommerfeldt from press conferences, drawing wide support from across the city. @andrewjulien took six hours to say anything publicly and then it was three more days to take concrete action.
ICYMI: It took @NYDailyNews management less than a day and half to “write” their op-ed blasting us but took more than three days for them to do anything concrete to address Mayor Adams’ blocking @C_Sommerfeldt from pressers. Management’s priority: union-busting, not a free press.
"Even understaffed, under-resourced and without a physical newsroom (Alden got rid of it in 2021), the Daily News routinely breaks crucial local news stories and provides the old-school in-depth local coverage the city has relied on for over a century" nygroove.nyc/nydn-union-dri…

The News's own AI suggested it, so how could we not?
We love when our members use their skills to fight for the truth
WE FIXED IT: Obviously our successful rally had an effect on @NYDailyNews management, who felt compelled to “write” an op-ed. Unfortunately it’s full of mischaracterizations and missing key facts. As journalists we couldn’t let that slide, so we got out our red pens…
Our @forbesunion members crunched the numbers -- and found that @Forbes is relying heavily on temp workers instead of filling vacancies with full time workers. More here..... nyguild.org/post/union-for…
NEW STUDY: We sent @Forbes CEO Sherry Phillips an invite today to lunch – to discuss our new study about the labor problem at Forbes Union.
We love to see it!
IT'S OFFICIAL: Workers at Snopes.com WON voluntary recognition of their union — @snopes_guild! ✊ Now they’re heading to the table to bargain for what they uphold every day in their reporting: Transparency. Accountability. Fairness. ✅ newsguild.org/workers-at-sno…
Legendary street reporter Kerry Burke at our rally yesterday: “[Alden president] Heath Freeman, he listed a mansion in Montauk for $27.5 million. We’re not asking for Montauk mansion money, we’re asking for living wages.”
We are proud to stand with the members of the @nyguild // @NYDNUnion fighting for respect on the job, a fair contract, and a free press in NYC! NYC needs its hometown paper!
Union power, baby!! Thank you to everyone who came out to support 💪
And that's the truth
New York’s hottest club is the Defend the Daily News rally outside City Hall
Last week, a federal judge ruled LAPD must stop shooting projectiles at journalists. We’re still pushing our lawsuit to hold DHS agents accountable as well. This is a coordinated assault on journalism, and it’s not over. nytimes.com/2025/07/11/us/…
