Super impressive work on an AI workflow to fully automate both screening and data extraction for systematic reviews led by @ChristianCao11 . Impressively high performing. Will change the SR landscape.
Today we’re announcing otto-SR, an AI workflow to perform systematic reviews 3000x faster By using gpt-4.1 and o3-mini, ottoSR beats humans at all tasks In two days, we conducted 12 work-years of Cochrane research–finding 2x more relevant papers and altering key conclusions 🧵
👏🏼 Congrats to #UCalgaryMed’s SeroTracker team, Dr. Niklas Bobrovitz & Christian Cao on this innovative approach using AI. Offering highly valuable methods for research and results for systematic reviews! Read more: bit.ly/43o3ZxD @ucalgarychi @uoftmedicine @nikbobrovitz

New: Study finds that a generic prompt for automated abstract and full-text screening using several LLMs can achieve high sensitivity/specificity when performing systematic reviews and meta-analyses. bit.ly/41nnhAS @UofT @HarvardMed @UCalgary @VectorInst @stripe #AI #LLM
We created & validated text prompts for LLM screening in systematic reviews. High performing. Could filter out 65-95% prior to human review or replace 1 human. Reduces cost. @ChristianCao11= superstar @UofT @UCalgary @ucalgarychi @cochranecollab #LLM #AI acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/AN…

🚶♀️ After surgery for a broken ankle, most people are told to keep weight off their ankle for 6 weeks. Yet some surgeons encourage people to walk after 2 weeks. ✅ Research found that walking earlier is safe for many people & could save the #NHS money: evidence.nihr.ac.uk/alert/walking-……

Artificial intelligence–based clinical decision support in the emergency department - great work led by Dr. Kareemi to map what tools are available and their stage of development. TLDR: validation studies needed. …ary-wiley-com.ezproxy.lib.ucalgary.ca/doi/10.1111/ac… @CAEP_Docs #AI #AImedicine

Enjoyed working with @mlinstrumnewman and the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women @GAATW_IS on this new report, which highlights that migrant and trafficked women face a variety of rights violations and injustices at the hands of official decision-makers. ⬇️
For over 20 years, GAATW has documented barriers migrant & trafficked women face in justice systems. Our latest report exposes stereotypes & biases that continue to undermine their rights.
ED wait times are a barrier to providing quality emerg care to CNDs. People falsely believe wait times reflect inappropriate ED visits however access block is a greater contributor. If Canadians want the ED to be ready for them this needs the attn of the entire health system.
Sunday on Checkup, we're revisiting an ongoing, important issue: how are Emergency Department wait times affecting you? Whether you're a patient, family member or work at a hospital, consider callinf or replying. In the last 45, we'll switch to bike lanes. Lots to talk about.
The internet has been progressively diluted with AI-generated slop. Are medical records headed for the same fate? 🧵 I just published a perspective in @NEJM with @AdamRodmanMD and Arjun Manrai on why rushing AI into medical documentation could be a mistake.
Congratulations to our members Drs. Jamie Benham and Sofia Ahmed on receiving CIHR National Women’s Health Research Initiative Grants to support their research addressing the needs of women, girls, & gender-diverse people. #WomensHealth #PCOS #HeartHealth #Research #PublicHealth
It’s great to see this feature in @bmj_latest on #inquests and PFD reports written by #coroners but sustainable funding is needed to assess how we can best #prevent premature deaths - delighted the Preventable Deaths Tracker was recognised #prevention #tracking #tracker #EBM
Campaigners say that coroners’ reports on preventing future deaths represent a missed opportunity to improve patient safety. But there are signs that systemic issues are gaining recognition, @sajeraj reports bmj.com/content/386/bm…
A new study in @CMAJ shows CHARTWatch, an AI early warning system developed at St. Michael’s Hospital that monitors hospitalized patients in real-time, led to a 26 per cent reduction in unanticipated deaths. unityhealth.to/2024/09/ai-too… 1/3
